  • Publication number: 20150009411
Abstract: A light emission portion of a video signal is detected, and the display intensity of the light emission portion is enhanced for emphasis display. At this moment, the intensity stretch amount is controlled in accordance with a status of video black display, thereby increasing the feeling of brightness and hence improving the video quality. A light emission detecting portion (12) generates a histogram obtained by integrating numbers of pixels for a predetermined feature value of an input video signal and detects, as a light emission part, a high-level area of a predetermined range of the histogram. An area-active-control/luminance-stretching portion (14) stretches and increases the intensity of a backlight portion (16) on the basis of an index related to a brightness calculated, on the basis of a predetermined condition, from the input video signal, and lowers the video signal intensity of the non-light emission part excluding the light emission part.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a display device and a method of driving it, capable of displaying images properly even upon asynchronous input of image data while taking advantages of decreased power consumption implemented by intermission driving. When there is an external input of new image data (image F) in a non-refreshing period in an intermission driving display device which performs intermittent refreshing based on the latest image data that is inputted in and read out from a frame memory, a coercive refreshing is started immediately based on the new image data (image F) (see the sixth frame period). Also, when there is an external input of image data (image G) during a refreshing period for the image F, the ongoing frame period including the refreshing of the image F is completed and immediately thereafter, a coercive refreshing based on the image data (image G) is started (see the ninth frame period).

Abstract: A system and method are provided for gracefully degrading video quality in a video entropy decoding system. The method comprises: accepting a sequence of coded video frames; measuring the speed at which the video frames are decoded; in response to the decoding speed, varying the degree of data decoded in each macroblock (MB) of a frame; and, supplying decoded video data from every MB in the frame. Though the degree of data decoded in each MB of the frame may vary, predictions from a first MB in a frame can still be used to decode a second MB in the frame. That is, synchronization is maintained between the first and second MB. Varying the degree of data decoded in each MB of the frame includes: decoding a minimal amount of data in each MB in the frame; and, varying the level of decoding performed on each MB in the frame.
