Patent number: 8630518Abstract: A system and method are provided for using bubble structures to control the extraction of light from a waveguide top surface. The method determines a maximum angle (?) of light propagation through a waveguide medium relative to a first horizontal direction parallel to a waveguide top surface. A plurality of bubble structures is provided having a refractive index less than the waveguide medium. The bubble structures have a base, and sides formed at an acute angle upwards with respect to the base. The bubble structure bases are separated by gap (W), have a height (H), and have a top separated from a waveguide top surface by a space (h). Patent number: 8628077Abstract: ADF includes a pickup roller, an arm, a regulatory member, a drive motor and a control section. The pickup roller is supported at shaft thereof by the arm swung between a lowered position and a raised position. The drive motor supplies a driving force for the swing to the arm. The regulatory member constrains the arm from moving upward across the raised position. The control section sets a setting-speed of the drive motor to a first speed by which much importance is attached to the reduction of driving noise of the drive motor when a first driving factor causing the arm to move from the neighborhood of the raised position occurs, and sets the setting-speed to a second speed by which much importance is attached to the reduction of contact noise with the regulatory member when a second driving factor causing the arm to move from the lowered position occurs.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2012Date of Patent: January 14, 2014Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yasumasa Morimoto, Toshiki Ohgita, Sohichi Takata

Publication number: 20140009513Abstract: A portion of a video signal for emitting light is detected, and the display brightness of the light emission portion is enhanced and displayed in a more conspicuous manner, whereby the sense of radiance is increased and the image quality is improved. A light emission detector (2) of the video display device generates a histogram in which the number of pixels is integrated into a predetermined feature quantity of an input video signal; and detects an upper region of a predetermined range of the histogram as a light emission section. An area-active control/brightness stretch portion (4) stretches and boosts the brightness of a backlight portion (6). A mapping portion (3) reduces the brightness of the video signal in a non-light-emission section, which excludes the detected light emission section. An increase in the screen brightness of the non-light-emission section is thereby suppressed, and the display brightness of the light emission section is enhanced.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2011Publication date: January 9, 2014Applicant: SHARP KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Tomoharu Noutoshi, Takashi Kanda, Toshiyuki Fujine
