  • Patent number: 6486778
Abstract: The presence detector has a passive infrared sensor for detecting the presence of persons in a room, an image sensor operating in the visible spectral range and an electronic evaluator for the evaluation of signals from these sensors. The signal from the passive infrared sensor is used to actuate the image sensor and, if necessary, to switch on the room lighting. Once activated, the image sensor is used to detect both movement and occupancy of a space being monitored. Application of the presence detector for the “on-demand” activation and/or control of conditioning facilities of a room, wherein the signals of both sensors are used for the control of the conditioning facility.

  • Patent number: 6486486
Abstract: The invention concerns a flame monitoring system and a method of monitoring a flame with a flame sensor (1) which converts the radiation emanating from the flame into a flame signal (U1) and a flame signal amplifier (40) which converts the flame signal (U1) into an output signal (U5). A frequency-selective arrangement (6, 17, 18, 19) detects the presence of mains frequency-harmonic signals in the flame signal (U1) and activates the flame signal amplifier (40) when there are no mains frequency-harmonic signals in the flame signal (U1) and deactivates the flame signal amplifier (40) when there is a flame signal (U1) with periodic signals or no flames signal (U1) or a test signal (T). In that respect the frequency selective arrangement (6, 17, 18, 19) has a frequency detector (18) which detects the absence of mains frequency-harmonic flame signals (U1) and appropriately activates or deactivates the flame signal amplifier (40) by way of switching means (6, 17, 18, 19).

Abstract: An operating mechanism for operating an actuating member is provided with an electric motor (11, 12), a resetting spring (3) and a centrifugal brake (20), wherein the actuating member can be operated in a first direction of movement by the electric motor (11, 12) activated by means of a control or regulating device, and in a second direction of movement by means of the resetting spring (3). In accordance with the invention, a brake body (22) of the centrifugal brake (20) is arranged on the rotor (12) of the electric motor (11, 12). The centrifugal brake (20) arranged directly on the rotor (12) can be configured such that a braking effect is generated only when the actuating member is operated by the resetting spring (3). When operated by the switched-on electric motor (11, 12), on the other hand, the centrifugal brake (20) has no braking effect. By means of the centrifugal brake (20) the speeds that can be reached are limited to the extent that no spurious vibrations and noises occur.

  • Patent number: 6456379
Abstract: A detector device for detecting the presence of airborne particles such as smoke includes a light source, an optical bridge, a measurement path, a reference path, a measurement receiver and a reference receiver. The optical bridge, in addition to the light source and the measurement and reference receivers, are the only optical elements of the detector device. The optical bridge includes two circular apertures arranged downstream of the light source along the radiation path. The light source is arranged in a chamber having an air reservoir, whose surface area is substantially greater than that of the light source. A temperature drift curve is determined by heating the light source and storing the detector signal at different temperatures.

  • Patent number: 6380882
Abstract: A motion detector based on the Doppler principle contains a microwave module for emitting a microwave signal containing at least two frequencies into a room under surveillance and for receiving the radiation reflected from the latter. An evaluation stage is connected to the microwave module and generates first and second Doppler signals from the received radiation. The first and second Doppler signals have a phase difference which is proportional to the distance of an object reflecting the microwave signal. The phase difference is determined by an integral transformation. In addition, the relative size of an object and the direction of travel of an object reflecting the microwave signal can be determined by the evaluation stage.

  • Patent number: 6297745
Abstract: A housing for an alarm includes a base adapted for mounting on a wall, a cover detachably connectable to the base and a sabotage detector for triggering an alarm signal in the event of unauthorized removal of the cover or forcible removal of the alarm from the wall. The base includes a breakaway portion which can be formed as strip-shaped region bordered by weak points. A number of screw insertion points extend through the breakaway portion for fastening the breakaway portion to a wall with one or more screws. A web projects from the breakaway portion and towards the cover such that when the housing is closed, the web engages a contact switch mounted in the cover. In the event of the housing being ripped off the wall, the strip-shaped region is broken off the base and remains on the wall, thereby opening the contact switch. The web is also disengaged from the contact switch in the event of unauthorized removal of the cover from the base.

  • Patent number: 6262661
Abstract: The infrared detector contains an entrance window for infrared radiation, an infrared sensor with an evaluation circuit and an anti-masking device having an optical transmitter and an optical receiver for detecting phenomena or optical changes immediately in front of the detector and/or changes in the optical properties of the entrance window. The signals of the anti-masking device are evaluated in two channels, wherein one channel responds to temporally limited phenomena or changes and the other channel responds to temporally stable phenomena or changes. A combined evaluation of the signals in the two channels takes place. In the combined evaluation, the channel processing the signals of the infrared sensor is preferably also included. As a result, the infrared detector acquires an increased immunity to false alarms and a higher sensitivity.
