  • Patent number: 8060110
Abstract: The geographical position, or measured information from which the geographical position may be deduced, of a mobile terminal is determined via requests to the terminal and positional information or measured information transmitted to a control device. The speed of displacement of the mobile terminal is determined from the transmitted positional information or measured information and the frequency of requests controlled depending on the determined speed of displacement of the mobile terminal. The communication exchange, in particular, for mobile terminals with low speeds of displacement is therefore significantly reduced and the mobile terminals and central devices provided with dynamic load reduction.

  • Patent number: 8055754
Abstract: According to the invention, an availability request is transmitted by a client to a server in order to verify whether a server is available. A response to said availability request is transmitted by the server to the client by means of a confirmation message if the server is available. The client transmits a message regarding the availability of the server to other clients who then prevent the transmission of an availability request to the server at least for a predefined period of time.

  • Patent number: 8045471
Abstract: A method for controlling packet flow in a packet transmission network. The method includes determining a parameter representative of packet congestion on the network, and adjusting a flow of packets onto the network in accordance with such parameter. The adjusting is a function of the time history of the parameter and the time average of such parameter relative to predetermined threshold levels. The adjusting selects one of a plurality of states, transitions between the states being a function of the time history of the parameter and the time average of such parameter relative to predetermined threshold levels.

Abstract: In one aspect, a method for realizing a presence service with a buddy list that can be displayed on a display device of a terminal is provided. In an activated state, the buddy list itself is displayed, and in a deactivated state, the buddy list itself is not visible. The buddy list is updated by a control device during a change in state of at lest one subscriber to be monitored and/or of at least one device assigned to the subscriber. According to the invention, the updating of the buddy list ensues in the deactivated state by means of the control device while using a method other than one used in the activated state.

  • Patent number: 8013757
Abstract: Registering energy consumption in part of a building, an item of state information of at least one energy load being acquired, the state information being transmitted to a control center, and the state information, a state duration and a specific statement of the consumption of the energy load being used to determine and evaluate the energy consumption in the control center. It is possible to dispense with separate energy consumption measuring units as a result of the energy consumption being registered by multiplying the switched-on duration by a specific statement of the energy consumption (that is to say power) of the energy load.

  • Patent number: 8015150
Abstract: In one aspect, a method for operating databases with a plurality of first data is provided. A temporary copy of at least some logically related parts of the plurality of first data is generated as second data for an editing procedure. The second data is offered by a user such that he can edit the second data. On conclusion of the editing procedure an individual comparison of the second data with the first data is performed such that when a second datum of the second data matches a first datum of the first data, a reference is created in the database to the first datum corresponding to the second datum. At least some of the second data for which no match with first data is determined is saved in the database.

  • Patent number: 8004978
Abstract: Method for reserving bandwidth in a packet-oriented network, in which a packet-oriented communication link is set up between a plurality of network elements using at least one communication path. In this case, an identification number which is unique to the communication link and is intended to identify the communication paths associated with the communication link is allocated. A bandwidth value for a respective communication path is then determined as the maximum bandwidth required by network elements in this communication path, and bandwidth in the respective communication path is reserved using the bandwidth value.

  • Patent number: 7969878
Abstract: A shared wireless channel may serve real-time traffic and non-real-time traffic. Depending on channel conditions, the real-time traffic may experience variable levels of quality. The present invention contemplates systems and methods for guaranteeing bounded access time for real-time applications in a shared wireless network in the presence of non-real-time traffic. The systems and methods provide mechanisms to adapt to changing characteristics of wireless channels and to maximize throughput of non-real-time traffic while preserving the quality of real-time applications. The systems and methods may be extended generally to provide adaptive control over the delivery of multiple classes of traffic to protect the quality of critical applications over a shared transmission medium, including IEEE 802.11 networks, IEEE 802.16 networks, and DOCSIS networks.

  • Patent number: 7965723
Abstract: A method and device for data traffic smoothing are provided. Arriving data packets are buffer-stored and passed on by taking account of an overhead of management information which is attached to the data packet in a protocol conversion process, which is carried out later. This protocol conversion process is carried out at a later time, for example by a DSL modem. The data transmission rate measured from the point of view of the network element carrying out the data traffic smoothing is not the criterion to be adjusted, but the data transmission rate after protocol conversion. A quality of service both for low and high data packet lengths is ensured, and the bandwidth of a DSL connection can therefore be exploited fully both for the VOIP and for data transmission.

  • Patent number: 7953797
Abstract: To assign clients distributed across a plurality of subnetworks to a server, one of the clients is first selected in a respective subnetwork. A search is carried out across the subnetworks by a respective selected client for other selected clients and for the server, whereby when it locates the server, the selected client stores server address information identifying said server and when it locates another selected client, it requests the server address information from that client and stores it on receipt. The stored server address information is transmitted by the selected client to one or a plurality of other selected or non-selected clients.

  • Patent number: 7953403
Abstract: A method and arrangement for detecting a radio coverage in a synchronous multicellular mobile radio system having a multitude of synchronous base stations that are connected to an evaluating unit are provided. All base stations are operated in succession in a measuring operating mod. A respective field intensity of base stations that are locally adjacent and in a normal operating mode is measured, and the respectively measured field intensity data are evaluated by the evaluating unit. This enables a sufficient radio coverage to be determined in a highly cost-effective manner and, optionally, to be corrected.
