  • Publication number: 20120200701
Abstract: An originating endpoint supports visual presence indications. The originating endpoint determines a destination endpoint with which to establish a desired communication session. A network communicates a notification message to the destination endpoint regarding the desired communication session. Prior to establishing the desired communication session and in response to the notification message, the originating endpoint receives image capture data representing the surroundings of the destination endpoint. The originating endpoint may then determine from the image capture data whether to continue or terminate the attempt to establish the communication session. Visual presence indications may increase productivity by reducing the time that would otherwise be spent on unsuccessful call attempts. Visual presence indications may also conserve network bandwidth and processing resources that would otherwise be spent on the unsuccessful call attempts.

  • Patent number: 8184796
Abstract: A private communications network and method of managing calls in a private communications network. Connected communications devices register with the network and are assigned aliases, with aliases for groups of registered devices sharing one or more common digits. Dialing strings for in-network calls are monitored for inclusion of a wildcard (e.g., *) which are treated as a “don't care.” The wildcard invokes group features, such as placing a conference call, invoking a hunting feature and invoking a pickup feature. The call is distributed/connected to the group corresponding to the remaining digits.

  • Patent number: 8184614
Abstract: A telecommunications system includes a packet network; a plurality of VoIP endpoints; and a plurality of VoIP feature servers. The VoIP endpoints are able to send configuration request messages to the feature servers. The feature servers respond with information indicative of supported features. The VoIP endpoints can then update the system configurations based on the response information. Further, newly added feature servers transmit feature availability messages to endpoints when initially installed. The endpoints then respond to configure themselves appropriately.

  • Patent number: 8170006
Abstract: A digital telecommunications system, a method of managing a communications network in such a system and a program product for managing audio transmission in a digital communications system. A softswitch manages communications between devices at network endpoints, e.g., session initiation protocol (SIP) devices, and detects when communications include a non-human, e.g., an audio system, at an endpoint. The softswitch selects conversational communications for calls between voice devices and messaging communications parameters with lower overhead for communications with an audio system, e.g., messaging systems such as voice mail.

  • Patent number: 8078137
Abstract: A telecommunications device includes a laptop computer having a telephony soft client that may run, for example, in a browser window. The telephony soft client includes a utility to allow it to determine the laptop's local external IP address and from it, the local country. The telephony soft client then performs a lookup of the local country's emergency telephone number, either from a local table or from a specially maintained remote database. The local emergency telephone number can then be displayed, or programmed to a “quick dial” key.

  • Patent number: 8050921
Abstract: A system and method according to the present invention automates call monitoring activities to evaluate and directly improve agent-customer interactions. Rather than listening to an entire call or monitoring only a small fraction of all the calls made in the contact center, the system performs highly accurate, automated evaluations of all customer interactions. By automating the time-consuming aspect of monitoring calls, the system empowers contact center operators to address quality issues, more accurately measure, coach and reward agents, and identify business-critical trends.

Abstract: A system including a conferencing telephone coupled to or in communication with an identification service. The identification service is configured to poll user devices of conference participants to determine or confirm identities. In response, the user devices transmit audio electronic business cards, which can include user voice samples and/or preprocessed voice recognition data. The identification service stores the resulting audio electronic business card data. When the corresponding participant speaks during the conference, the identification service identifies the speaker.
