Publication number: 20060021137Abstract: A locking mechanism comprises: a hub movable between a raised and a lowered position and a pair of structures, pivotally mounted to a common bracket. Sector gears engage each other rotate in unison. A locking assembly mounted upon the common bracket moves between a locked position preventing rotation of said structures and a released position allows rotating of said structures. At least two rods are pivotally joined to one of said structures. When the lock button is unlocked, and the hub is lifted, the rods are moved together to be substantially parallel, and when the hub is lowered, the gears rotate and the rods are pushed away from each other until the rods lie substantially in a common plane, enabling, the locking button to be moved to its locked position to prevent movement of the hub from the lowered position.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 30, 2004Publication date: February 2, 2006Applicant: Simplicity, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth Waldman, Jerome Drobinski

Publication number: 20060021138Abstract: The play yard has a hub movable between a raised position and a lowered position, with at least two lower rods pivotally joined to the hub, wherein when the hub is lifted toward the raised position, the outer ends of the lower rods move together so as to be substantially parallel, and when the hub is pushed toward the lowered position from the raised position, the outer ends of the lower rods are pushed away from each other until the rods lie substantially in a common plane. The play yard also has an upper frame with upper frame rods substantially parallel to the lower rods when the hub is in the lowered position. Finally, the play yard has at least one of the upper frame rods pivotable between a raised and lowered position, the pivoting axis being substantially perpendicular to an axis of the vertical rails.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 16, 2004Publication date: February 2, 2006Applicant: Simplicity, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth Waldman, Jerome Drobinski

Publication number: 20050148278Abstract: An amusement device advantageous for use with an infant crib or the like. An arm slideably engages a mounting bracket which is formed to rigidly attach to a top rail of the infant crib. The arm includes a drive motor configured to rotate a snap fitting which releasably secures a support member having one or more novelty items connected thereto. The arm also houses a speaker, a light array, a night light, a processor and an array of switches. A platform, serving as a support for an infant, has a vibration device mounted on it. The switches are selectively activated to control the processor to selectively operate the speaker, the light array, the drive motor, the night light, or the vibration motor. Patent number: 6354978Abstract: A differential having variable traction control and permitting preferably infinite planet or side gear braking adjustment during differential operation. In some preferred embodiments, an actuation element is movable during differential operation to exert braking force upon a side or planet gear. The braking force can be exerted directly or indirectly upon a gear surface by a braking element. The amount of braking force is preferably controlled via the actuation element through a range of positions. The actuation element is preferably a lever or similar element movable either to drive a brake element in harder or lighter frictional engagement with a planet or side gear or to drive a planet or side gear in harder or lighter frictional engagement with a brake element. Alternatively, the actuation element can be a set of cables movable to actuate a brake element. In other embodiments, actuation of the brake elements is inherently generated by differential operation.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1999Date of Patent: March 12, 2002Assignee: Simplicity Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: John F. Patent number: 5642864Abstract: A chipper vacuum shredder system and apparatus includes a chipper mechanism, a shredder mechanism and a vacuum mechanism carried by a mobile platform. The vacuum mechanism is coupled to a passage having a nozzle. The nozzle includes an adjustable baffle structure for varying the velocity of air flow for delivering yard waste to the chipper-shredder mechanism. The mobile platform includes a bellcrank height adjusting mechanism which varies the height of the nozzle over a surface to be vacuumed, thereby increasing performance on varying surface conditions, particularly when used in conjunction with the adjustable baffle structure. An adjustable deflector is coupled to an exhaust portion of the vacuum mechanism for directing a stream of air to move yard waste and the like as desired. The chipper system is accessed through a cone-shaped inlet through which branches to be chipped can be inserted.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1994Date of Patent: July 1, 1997Assignee: Simplicity Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Tommy A. Patent number: 5570570Abstract: A steering and suspension system for a ride-on mower. A wheel is connected to a spindle and rotates about a first axis of rotation. The spindle is coupled to a frame and rotates about a second axis of rotation that is inclined from vertical backward substantially along a longitudinal axis of the ride-on mower. A level adjusting device is coupled to a steering component of the ride-on mower and is also coupled to a lawn mower accessory. The level adjusting device offsets vertical displacements caused by the inclined spindles, thereby allowing the accessory to stay level when turning the ride-on mower.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: November 5, 1996Assignee: Simplicity Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth H.
