  • Patent number: 5590547
Abstract: In a yarn feeder (2), the yarn feed may be effected by a yarn reserve (11) support spool (2), which is arranged to rotate by means of a motor (60). The yarn is taken up by and unwound from the spool as the latter rotates. Unwinding of the yarn reserve on the spool is not controlled. The size of the yarn reserve is monitored and yarn take-up is controlled accordingly. The unit also includes electrically contactless sensing and control devices (3), which are preferably located immediately adjacent to the rotary spool. The unit (3) is designed to sense the presence and quantity of yarn on the yarn reserve support surface (10) of the spool. The unit also controls the said motor.

  • Patent number: 5275020
Abstract: A circular knitting machine has a needle cylinder (7) and a dial (25) which define a comb distance (x). One of these two needle carriers and a respective cam (9, 27) are displaceably supported in a frame of the circular knitting machine. To prevent unwanted changes in the comb distance during temperature fluctuations, a compensating structural component part (30) is provided which is coupled with the displaceable needle carrier, usually the dial and the cam assigned to the latter and constructed and arranged in such a way that the unwanted changes in the comb distance are compensated for automatically by correspondingly dimensioned thermal expansion or upsetting of the compensating structural component part.

  • Patent number: 5275023
Abstract: The invention relates to a device on a knitting machine equipped with slider needles for controlling the laying in of a thread (28) into the open needle hooks (5.2). In order to avoid that the thread is not laid into the hooks correctly or that a thread which has already been laid into the hook, jumps out of the hook (5.2) during the closing movement of the slider parts (6) on account of vibrations or the like, the slider parts (6) of the slider needles are provided with inclined faces (6.5) which project when the hooks (5.2) are closed into the thread spaces (32) formed by these hooks and the needle and slider parts (5,6). In this way the thread portions between the thread guide (29) and the slider needles are pressed deeply into the thread spaces (32) during the closing movement of the slider parts (6), so that the thread sections laid into the following slider needles with hooks still open come securely into the respective thread spaces (32) or are retained therein FIG. 3).

  • Patent number: 5239843
Abstract: For the production of plush knitted goods containing stitches made from main and plush threads, main threads and plush threads are fed to hooks and sinkers, at least the plush threads are pre-formed to plush thread loops by drawing back the knitting tools from a plush thread receiving position into an intermediate position and by, in so doing, drawing and holding taut the plush threads over associated ones of the sinkers, then stitches are formed with the main threads and plush thread loops by drawing back the knitting tools farther into a knocking-over position and by, in doing so, controlling the sinkers in such a way that the pre-formed plush thread loops are held in taut during the stitch formation and that the risk of shortening or undoing of pre-formed plush thread loops during such stitch formation is greatly diminished.

  • Patent number: 5181666
Abstract: A strand or thread feed device, especially for circular knitting machines, is described, having a rotatable storage drum, onto which a predetermined amount of thread is wound and from which the thread is withdrawn in dependence on the thread usage. A brake ring (25) is fitted on the storage drum and consists of a base ring (29) and elastic, bristle-like elements (30) fixed thereon, preferably inclined opposite to the direction of rotation (v) and radially inwardly. In order that the storage drum may be able to accelerate abruptly to its operating speed from rest, without the brake ring (25) being retarded or even not entrained, the peripheral surface of the storage drum is provided with means, e.g. grooves with a sawtooth cross-section, which form abutment surfaces (44) transverse to the longitudinal direction of the elements (30) and with which the bristle-like elements (30) cooperate and ensure form-locking coupling between the brake ring (25) and storage drum in the direction of rotation (v).
