  • Patent number: 6627211
Abstract: A method of vehicle modulated administration of an anticonvulsive agent to the nasal mucous membranes of humans and animals is disclosed. The vehicle system is an aqueous pharmaceutical carrier comprising an aliphatic alcohol, a glycol and a biological surfactant such as a bile salt or a lecithin. The pharmaceutical composition provides a means to control and promote the rate and extent of transmucosal permeation and absorption of the medicaments via a single and multiple administration. Nasal administration of the pharmaceutical preparation produces a high plasma concentration of the anticonvulsant nearly as fast as intravenous administration. Such compositions are particularly suitable for a prompt and timely medication of patients in the acute and/or emergency treatment of status epilepticus and other fever-induced seizures.

Abstract: There are provided novel blue light-emitting organic electroluminescent polymers having a main chain consisting of 9,10-diphenylanthracene and vinylene, and electroluminescent devices using the same. With the introduction of substituents which are of high thermal stability and are capable of steric hindrance at the alpha position of the vinyl group, the electroluminescent polymers make it easy to conduct inter- and intra-molecular energy transfer, and the injection and transportation of holes or electrons, as well as restraining &pgr;-stacking between polymer chains. Also, the prevention of intermolecular two- and three-dimensional interference by the introduced bulky substituents leads to reduced extinction of excitons, whereby the organic electroluminescent device can emit blue light at high luminous efficiency.

  • Publication number: 20030130525
Abstract: There is disclosed a preparation method of 3-methylindole derivatives by reducing the aldehyde moiety in indole-3-carboxaldehyde derivatives in the presence of the copper or copper oxide-based hydrogenation catalyst. This process is performed in solvent under the condition of 50-300° C. and 50-1,000 psig in the presence of a solvent with a hydrogen atmosphere. The method is advantageous in the economic aspects because of the employment of a relatively inexpensive hydrogenation catalyst and the easy regeneration thereof. Further, this process is environmentally safe because the intended addition of the sulfur components is not required therefor.

  • Publication number: 20030114693
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of preparing an optically pure (R)- or (S)-tetrahydrofuranyl ketone. By such a method, (R)- or (S)-2-tetrahydrofuran amide is converted to (R)- or (S)-2-tetrahydrofuran nitrile through dehydration in the presence of a dehydrating agent and an amine base. Then, thus prepared (R)- or (S)-2-tetrahydrofuran nitrile is nucelophilic addition-reacted with a nucleophile, followed by hydrolyzing, thereby produce (R)- or (S)-tetrahydrofuranyl ketone having high optical purity, while minimizing production of other by-products.

  • Patent number: 6485578
Abstract: Disclosed is a chemical cleaning process for removing fouling from process lines of oil refining or petrochemical plants. The process lines are in an on-line state and a chemical cleaning agent is circulated through the process lines to remove the fouling. It can effectively recover the thermal efficiency in oil refining processes or petrochemical processes within a short period of time, so that significant energy consumption is reduced. Furthermore, the chemical cleaning process requires a shorter cleaning period and therefore allows for a longer operating time. It can also dislodge fouling without opening heat exchangers or other equipment thereby preventing the release of VOCs. As a result, environmental pollution is not generated. The present invention is also ecconomically favorable as it extends the time between periodic maintenance.

  • Patent number: 6455302
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for optically resolving a racemic &agr;-substituted heterocyclic carboxylic acid (&agr;-HCCA) by taking advantage of enantioselectivity of enzymes. &agr;-HCCA is reacted with alcohol to give a racemic &agr;-HCCA ester, which is then reacted with an enzyme with enantioselectivity, whereby either R-form or S-form of the racemate is hydrolyzed. Extraction with an organic solvent can obtain enantiomers of the &agr;-HCCA ester. The extracted enantiomeric &agr;-HCCA ester is converted to enantiomeric &agr;-HCCA by catalytic hydrogenation in an organic solution or by enzymatic hydrolysis in an aqueous solution. Thus, a racemic mixture of &agr;-HCCA can be optically resolved with high optical purity at high yields as well as at low cost.
