Patent number: 4671519Abstract: A sealing ring for a rotary shaft which serves to retain and/or return a lubricant, includes a generally annular rigid supporting member and a generally annular elastic sealing member connected to the supporting member. The sealing member terminates in a sealing surface contacting the shaft with one side of the sealing surface directed toward the ring lubricant and the other side toward the atmosphere. On the atmospheric side, spaced-apart projections rest against the shaft surface. Projections on the lubricant side also press against the shaft surface. The projections on both sides include edges oriented obliquely to the shaft axis which provide pumping action when the shaft rotates. Lubricant pumped under the sealing surface to the atmospheric side by projections on the lubricant side is pumped back by the projections on the atmospheric side. In the process the seal is lubricated.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1984Date of Patent: June 9, 1987Assignee: SKF Industrial Trading and Development Company B.V.Inventors: Johan C. M. Patent number: 4669911Abstract: A clamping ring for use e.g. as a support around a jointing sleeve during explosion welding consists substantially of two preferably equal ring halves (1,2) connected to each other over slots (3) limited by flanges (4,5) comprising surfaces (6,7) which form an angle (.alpha.). The surfaces co-operate with opposing surfaces (10,11) on an annular clamping member (9) which enclosed the flanges. Means, e.g. screws (12), are provided for bringing about a wedging action by displacing of the clamping member in relation to the clamping ring, thereby varying the bore circumference of the clamping ring. The force uniting the clamping ring halves is completely taken up by the clamping member (9) and does not stress the screws (12).Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1985Date of Patent: June 2, 1987Assignee: SKF Nova ABInventors: Bengt Lundgren, Rune Adolfsson

Patent number: 4666386Abstract: A rotary pump has a housing 1 with a driven rotor 7 installed in the housing 1. Vanes 12 are connected around the periphery of the rotor 7. Helical springs 14 are supported against rotor 7, which, acting on an inner surface of vanes 12, press the free end of the vanes 12 against the bore 6 of the housing 1. Each spring 14 has two coaxial sections of turns which spiral in opposite directions so that the springs 14 press the vanes 12 against the bore 6 of the housing 1 without tilting. These sections of turns are each designed with an adjacent support end 21 on the outer or inner section and a bail section, which is arranged between the inner and outer end of the sections of turns, connecting the inner and outer ends of these sections of turns rigidly together, and which projects radially beyond the sections of turns.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1985Date of Patent: May 19, 1987Assignee: SKF GmbH, SchweinfurtInventors: Otmar Winkler, Heinz Peter, Manfred Krug, Siegbert Kessler, Ludwig Feuerer

Patent number: 4654181Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacture of a rolling body directly on a bearing, comprising a hub, a roller sleeve, an annular portion joining the hub and roller sleeve, and reinforcing ribs on either side of the annular portion. Injected material fills the recesses for forming the reinforcing ribs from two directions: a primary flow radially inwardly directed from the mold portion for forming the roller sleeve and a secondary flow radially outwardly directed from the mold portion for forming the hub. The total cross-sectional area of the recesses for forming the reinforcing ribs is adjusted with respect to the circumferential cross-sectional area of the mold portion for forming the annular portion so that the fronts of the primary and secondary flows meet in the recesses. Pressure-release openings are arranged to communicate with the recesses at points in the area at which the meeting of the flow fronts occurs.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1984Date of Patent: March 31, 1987Assignee: SKF Kugellagerfabriken GmbHInventors: Manfred Brandenstein, Roland Bonengel, Herbert Dobhan

Patent number: 4653936Abstract: A bearing bushing is provided with a sealing ring having a conical bore surface on the side remote from the side at which a shaft is inserted. The rim of the bearing bushing is provided with a concial surface which cooperates with the conical surface of the sealing ring during insertion of the shaft so as to restrain the sealing ring in a manner that prevents it from being forced out of the bearing bushing. Alternatively, a restraining ring having a circumferential projection with a conical surface can be arranged to prevent unseating of the sealing ring when the shaft is inserted from the sealing ring side of the bearing bushing. A shaft being inserted exerts axial force on the sealing ring, causing the inner portion of the sealing ring to expand radially as the conical surface of the sealing ring slidingly ascends the conical surface of the bushing rim or restraining ring, thereby allowing easy insertion of the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1985Date of Patent: March 31, 1987Assignee: SKF GmbHInventors: Armin Olschewski, Bernhard Bauer, Elisabeth Zirk

Patent number: 4652168Abstract: An arrangement and method for rotation-secure mounting of a machine on a journal having a threaded portion, the machine element and journal having tooth surfaces which define an annular space therebetween. A thin-walled sleeve made of plastically deformable material and having a wall thickness smaller than the height of the annular space is arranged in the annular space and then is plastically deformed to fill the annular space during tightening of the nut. The sleeve material plastically flows into the interstitial spaces between the tooth surfaces of the machine element and the journal, thereby securing the machine element against rotation relative to the journal.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1985Date of Patent: March 24, 1987Assignee: SKF GmbHInventor: Manfred Brandenstein

Patent number: 4651585Abstract: A steering box for a motor vehicle comprises a rotatable toothed pinion, an axially movable rack within a casing, and a support unit to support the thrust which the pinion applies to the rack during operation. The support unit comprises a rotatable roller operable to support the rack. The roller is provided with an axial hold in which is formed a pair of rolling tracks for rolling bodies. A pair of rings are disposed within the hole in contact with one another, each forming with the roller the rolling tracks for the rolling bodies. Two rings of the rolling bodies are disposed between the roller and the rings. A pin supports the rings. The pin is mounted in a cylindrical body provided with a central cavity operable to house the roller, at least patially. The cylindrical body is provided with a pair of slots each of which is able to receive one end of the pin.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1984Date of Patent: March 24, 1987Assignee: RIV-SKF Officine di Villar Perosa S.p.A.Inventors: Vittorio Donn, Pietro Cogno
