  • Patent number: 4793459
Abstract: A conveyor roller comprises a steel roller tube fitted with end cap assemblies incorporating bearings for rotatably mounting the roller tube on a fixed shaft. Each end cap assembly comprises a rigid housing which supports the bearing, and a separate collar of resilient plastics material mounted on the housing. The axially inner end portion of the collar has an annular recess which receives a radial flange on the housing, and the axially outer end portion of the collar consists of inner and outer tubular walls which are spaced apart prior to fitting of the end cap assembly in the roller tube. The external surface of the inner tubular wall is curved radially inwards and axially outwards. Each end cap assembly is secured in position by swaging the end of the tube so as to force the outer wall of the collar against the inner wall along its length.

  • Patent number: 4790543
Abstract: A sealing device for a slot between two elements, which are rotatable relative to each other, e.g. an outer and an inner race ring in a rolling bearing, incorporates a flexible sealing portion having a lip, which contacts a sealing surface surrounding the lip. The sealing portion is rotatable, and the centrifugal force acts upon it thus that it tends to leave the surface at increasing rotational speed. In order positively to avoid that the lip is urged so hard against the surface at high rotational speeds, that an unallowable temperature increase occurs, the sealing portion and the surface have profiles of such shape, that the lip is displaced in a direction which has a component directed radially outwards relative to the rotational axis, when the sealing portion with the lip is bent by the centrifugal force.

  • Patent number: 4790203
Abstract: In a worm gear comprised of a nut and a threaded spindle, the groove bottoms of the threads are provided with a central support projection, and a radially deeper region is provided adjacent the projection on both sides thereof. When radial forces act in the same direction at both ends of the worm gear, the projection serves as a radial support projection with sufficient axial play. By providing convexly curved thread flank surfaces, for example on the nut, the threads run under the same conditions also when the axes of the nut and spindle are inclinded to one another as a result of the application thereto of inclined forces. As a consequence, axial play is reduced. Clamping of the threads is avoided in this case, however, since the support projection hinders a wedging action between the threads of the worm gear.

  • Patent number: 4782576
Abstract: For adjustment of the relative positions of two machine parts, at least one of the machine parts is provided with projections outwardly formed by stamping, the projections having contact surfaces which lie against the other machine part. The adjustment is performed by setting the projections back under the influence of a pressing force according to requirements. By this operation a relatively large contact surface can be provided. The deformation process takes place exclusively in the transition region between the projection and the rest of the machine part. The restoring forces are relatively small and relatively constant over the entire restoring range.

  • Patent number: 4776707
Abstract: In a linear rolling bearing element, especially for tripod joints, the cage is formed of a relatively thick sheet metal and limit projections for a linearly movable support are formed by stamping out of the material of the cage. The rollers are likewise held in the cage by projections formed out of the cage. This results in a stable cage which can take the high forces from the engagement of the support. The outer roller may be close to the limit projection, in order to assure a good support of the roller in the extreme position of the tripod joint.
