    Abstract: In a longitudinally movable rolling bearing having a plurality of endless rows of spherical rolling elements, elongated races are provided for supporting loaded rolling elements against the inner boring of a housing. The radially directed surfaces of the rails are identical, so that the rails may be reversed to prolong the life of the bearing. In one embodiment, the rails are straight in the lengthwise direction, for use in a bearing in a precision machine. In another embodiment of the invention, the rails are convex curved in the lengthwise direction, for use in a bearing requiring compensation for misalignment of a shaft and the housing.

The locking device is of generally rectangular shape and is made of a resilient elastically deformable material so that it is readily inserted and removed from the inner ring bore. When seated in place it exerts a clamping action in a radial direction by spring action and contacts in the bore of both inner ring parts of the bearing.

    Abstract: A centering ring for a rolling bearing assembly comprising an outer ring, an inner ring and at least two rows of rolling elements in the annular space between the rings and a retainer having pockets for the rolling elements. The centering ring is of T-shaped cross section and preferably made of sheet metal and the outer surface of the bar of the T conforms to the shape of the outer raceway and the vertical leg of the T is connected to the retainer. The centering ring may also be provided with grooves or be knurled to retain lubricant and the inner face of the T-shaped bar is preferably conical and outwardly divergent from the vertical leg to aid in the distribution of lubricant to the rolling elements.

    Abstract: A self aligning clutch release bearing, mountable on a guide tube in a clutch assembly, includes inner bearing race tube and a rigid guide socket. A rigid guide socket rides on the guide tube and has a radial flange which frictionally engages a corresponding radial flange on the bearing race tube to deter inclination of the inner bearing race tube relative to the guide tube.

    Abstract: In a rolling bearing for linear movement with respect to a shaft, the bearing has a sleeve, and axially extending guide rails on the inner and outer surfaces of the sleeve. Rolling elements are guided by the guide rails, and have concave spool-like central portions matched to the shaft, to provide linear contact therewith. The ends of the rolling elements are convexly curved to match the curvature of the inner surface of the sleeve, so that the inner surface of the sleeve forms a raceway for rolling elements under load. Grooves are provided in the lateral surfaces of the guide rails for guiding balls disposed between the ends of adjacent rolling elements. End caps on the bearing have turn-around guides for directing rolling elements between the inner raceways and the raceways for unloaded rolling elements along the outer surfaces of the sleeve.

    Abstract: A linear ball bearing having an outer shell and a cage which define between them a plurality of endless axial raceways filled with balls, has at each end an end ring having a shoulder extending radially outward for axially fixing the bearing in a housing bore. The end ring may be positioned and secured after the bearing shell and balls are situated in the housing. Alternatively, the shoulder may be formed of resilient tongues which are deflectable radially inwardly during insertion of the bearing shell into the housing bore, and which subsequently spring radially outwardly to engage the housing wall and secure the bearing in place.

    Abstract: A method of facilitating the disposal of waste cutting liquid consisting essentially of an emulsion of partly soluble oils and water comprises subjecting a trickling flow of the liquid to the action of a current of hot air at a temperature of from 80.degree. to 250.degree. C. and thus evaporating the water from the liquid. Insoluble oils may be removed from the liquid by decantation before the liquid is subjected to the current of hot air. Preferably the oil which remains after the water has been evaporated from the liquid is used as fuel in the heating of the hot air so that the oil is disposed of. Apparatus for carrying out this method comprises an evaporation tower containing a series of plates alternately inclined in opposite directions to the horizontal and arranged one beneath the other to permit a trickling zig-zag flow of the cutting liquid over the plates from the top plate to the bottom plate in the series.

The sleeve includes an inner portion of flexibly deformable material suited for contracting the rolling bodies and have a helical race track therefor and an outer portion provided with a recirculation channel for the rolling bodies. The shaft which is enclosed by the sleeve has a smooth surface and the rolling bodies are urged against the shaft by means of the inner elastic portion of the sleeve.

The chamber is adapted to be supplied with a fluid under pressure. A second element is mounted between the machine member such as the crusher shaft and the first element and spaced from the latter to define a second chamber in fluid communication with the first chamber. The ball is mounted in a spherical seat in the first element and a piston in the second element engages the ball on the side thereof opposite the seat. Biasing means normally urges the piston against the ball.

    Abstract: A roller bit for rock drilling comprising a body having at least one stub axle and a geared cutting element rotatably mounted on said stub axle. The stub axle and cutting element have confronting spaced raceways for a plurality of rolling elements. The locking ring has an outer cylindrical peripheral surface engaging in a complementary cavity in the cutting element adjacent the raceway surface therein. The locking ring has a seat for mounting a resilient sealing member engaging the stub axle adjacent the raceway therein connected in the mounted state to the stub axle.
