Abstract: A method and strand guide for supporting, guiding and cooling casting strands (1) made of steel, especially preliminary sections (2) for girders, which are cooled by injected water (29) and are drawn, serve to prevent cracks, especially surface cracks, from appearing in the microstructure by adapting the cooling conditions of the surface of the strand in the region of the secondary cooling, and serve to prevent undercooling of the strand shell, wherein in order to avoid an undesirable solidification structure on the upper flange edges or in other cross-sectional areas, the cooling and support of the beam blank format are so adapted to the solidification range that cooling and support are provided exclusively where a crater is formed.

Abstract: An auxiliary adjusting device for a rolling mill stand includes a adjusting shaft, a cylindrical member forming an adjusting spindle and having a first outer thread cooperating with the inner thread of a support sleeve fixedly connected to the cross-beam, and a central recess provided with longitudinal teeth, a carrier secured to a bottom of the cross-beam, projecting into the central recess of the cylindrical member, and carrying, at its end side, a tooth gear that functions as a planet gear that cooperates, on one hand, with a tooth gear secured at an end of the adjusting shaft which extends through the carrier, and serving as a sun gear, and, on another hand, with the longitudinal teeth of the central recess of the cylindrical member, and an adjusting pressure sleeve connected with the support sleeve for longitudinal displacement relative thereto but without a possibility of rotation relative thereto.
Abstract: The invention relates to a mold wall for plate molds, tubular molds or similar, especially a broadside wall of a continuous casting mold for steel. The inventive plates consisting of copper or a copper alloy, which are either provided with coolant channels or are in thermally conductive contact with a water tank. Said plates have a surface which comes into direct contact with the steel melt and a protective layer applied to said surface. The wear resistance and mechanical workability are improved as a result of the protective layer consisting of a galvanically manufactured binary or ternary metal alloy dispersion, e.g. based on nickel with intercalated dispersants.
