  • Patent number: 8555476
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and a method for depositing a metal coil (200) on two support points (110-1; 110-2). In order to avoid risks, in particular instability, while depositing metal coils having high residual stress, according to the invention the risk of an unstable position of equilibrium is checked, if a change in the relative position of the two support points (110-1; 110-2) with respect to one another is foreseeable, it is carried out such that the metal coil (200) comes to rest on both support points at least approximately in a stable position of equilibrium.

  • Patent number: 8522858
Abstract: A method for continuous casting from molten metal, where metal flows vertically downward from a mold and metal strip is then guided vertically downward along a vertical strand guide, cooling as it moves. The strip is deflected from the vertical direction to the horizontal direction. In the terminal area of the deflection of the strip into the horizontal direction or after the deflection into the horizontal direction, a mechanical deformation of the strip is carried out. The strip is cooled at a heat-transfer coefficient of 3,000 to 10,000 W/(m2 K) in a first section downstream of the mold and upstream of mechanical deformation of the strip. In a second section, downstream of the cooling, the strip surface is heated to a temperature above Ac3 or Ar3 by heat equalization in the strip. The mechanical deformation is subsequently carried out in a third section.

  • Patent number: 8494679
Abstract: Modern steel production processes require precise knowledge of the current composition and temperature of the liquid metal being processed. In particular during steel production in a converter, high match rates for final carbon content and bath temperature are required. Quantitatively precise blowing of oxygen corresponding to the final target carbon content, and the metal temperature, are decisive factors affecting the economic efficiency of the process and the quality of the steel produced. In order to allow relatively precise process monitoring, various processes and procedures are known, the application thereof being based on measuring exhaust gas composition and on mass flow balances. All models work at an exactness that depends on the precision of the input data, particularly with respect to the weight data of the raw materials and the chemical properties of the metal used.

  • Patent number: 8490451
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for rolling strip-shaped rolling stock, in particular metal strip. This method is characterized substantially by the following procedure: the metal strip A exiting the pickling line passes through the two roll stands (3, 4) of the reversing roll stand, wherein the start of a subsequent metal strip B has already been welded to the strip end of the metal strip A before entering the pickling line (5), said start of the metal strip B is then rolled as well, specifically over a length corresponding to the wind-on length until tension is built up on the reel and likewise rims on the reversing reel (1), during the subsequent reversing the metal strip B is separated from the metal strip A such that the already rolled start of the metal strip B remains on the still unrolled remaining metal strip B, then the complete metal strip A is reverse-rolled.

  • Patent number: 8474294
Abstract: The invention concerns a rolling stand, a rolling train, and a method for rolling a stepped preprofiled metal strip. In order to guarantee that the metal strip is free of waviness in its longitudinal direction, even after individual thickness reduction of the steps, the invention proposes that the thickness reduction be carried out on a step-specific basis according to the following mathematical relationship: ?hi/hi=?hi+1/hi+1=?=constant, where ?hi represents the amount of the thickness reduction in the region of the i-th step, and hi represents the value of the resulting thickness of the metal strip 200 after rolling in the region of the i-th step.

Abstract: Crank scissors, especially for cutting rolling strips, having two pairs of blades which can be secured to the blade carriers. The blade carriers are arranged in an opposite position on a vertical plane in a pair of eccentric drive shafts. Double-joint arrangements are maintained in a pivotable manner on torque-supporting levers co-operating with hydraulic control units that engage the levers. The blade carriers form pairs of heating surfaces, which are parallel to the axis, for the pairs of blades on approximately radial projections. The upper pair of blades is arranged on the inner, bearing surfaces of an arc-shaped recess of the upper blade carrier which are oriented towards each other, and the lower pair of blades is arranged on a relatively narrow projection on the outer bearing surfaces.
