Abstract: Pneumatic tire, the belt of which is reinforced by a multilayer laminate comprising at least one multiaxially drawn thermoplastic polymer film, such as for example a biaxially drawn PET film, placed between and in contact with two layers of rubber composition, such as natural rubber. Preferably, the thermoplastic polymer film has, irrespective of the tensile direction considered, a tensile modulus E which is greater than 500 MPa, a maximum tensile stress ?max which is greater than 80 MPa, and an elongation at break Ar greater than 40%. The above thermoplastic polymer film, placed between two layers of diene rubber compositions, can especially be used in the belt of pneumatic tires as a perforation-resistant protective film.

  • Publication number: 20120067484
Abstract: A method to reduce or eliminate pinch flashing in mold operations by applying a thin coating of a hydrocarbon wax to the outside surface of an uncured rubber article or on the sidewall or shoulder of a green tire at a location(s) where segments of the mold close on each other and on the rubber article or tire during cure. The hydrocarbon wax has a melting point from about 60 degrees to about 80 degrees Celsius, and is compatible with the composition of the rubber. The hydrocarbon wax acts as a sacrificial layer and is scraped up by the mold parts instead of the rubber when the mold segments close.

  • Publication number: 20120067481
Abstract: A passive tuned vibration absorber is used to attenuate unwanted vibrations in the spokes of a non-pneumatic tire and wheel assembly. Each spoke has a cutaway central portion having a tuned vibration absorber n the form of a protruding member having an axial width and a radial height and the radial height of the protruding member is less than a radial height of the spoke. Additionally, a method of determining the vibrational characteristics of the spokes of a non-pneumatic tire and wheel assembly is included.

  • Publication number: 20120065292
Abstract: The present invention relates to a rubber composition comprising a styrene-butadiene copolymer (SBR), a polybutadiene (BR), an unsaturated thermoplastic styrene (TPS) copolymer and a reinforcing filler. The invention also relates to the use of such a composition for the manufacture of a tyre tread that has improved properties in terms of wear resistance, while retaining a very good level of grip on wet ground.

  • Publication number: 20120055601
Abstract: Particular embodiments of the present invention include a progressive sipe mold member with scallops and a corresponding sipe formed within a tire tread. In a particular embodiment, the present invention includes a progressive sipe mold member for use in a mold, the mold member comprising: an upper mold member extending downwardly from a top end to a bottom end; and, a first lower projection member and a second lower projection member, each lower member extending downward from the upper mold member and having recesses on their inward and outward facing surfaces. The sipe mold member may also have a sweep axis along which the sipe mold member undulates in a desired path as well as an undulation in the upper mold member. The mold member creates a sipe in the tread of a tire that has the negative image of the shape of the mold member.

  • Publication number: 20120038357
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and methodology for detecting anomalies in cables within a tire structure. A plurality of magnetic field sensitive sensors are aligned within a magnetic field provided by a magnet. The alignment of sensors and magnet is such that flux lines from the magnet are generally parallel to the plane occupied by the magnetic sensors. A tire cable anomaly present between the magnetic field sensitive sensors produces a detectable difference in signals produced by the magnetic field sensitive sensors as a result of the formation of perpendicular flux patterns produced by the anomaly. A signal processing circuit receiving input signals from the sensors evaluates differences between the signals from each of the plurality of sensors by pairing the output signal from each sensor with the output signal from each of the others of the plurality of sensors and produces an output signal upon the differences meeting selected criteria.

  • Publication number: 20120035756
Abstract: Tires in use wear in a host of ways. One negative manner in which tires, especially truck tires, may wear is in an irregular fashion. When this phenomenon happens, the tread of the tire may become unusable, forcing the user to replace the tire, which is undesirable. This patent application poses a new and useful way of preventing irregular wear involving the addition of a predetermined configuration of pipes, increasing the useful life of the tire tread.

  • Publication number: 20120035894
Abstract: A method is presented for predicting a noise/comfort performance in a cabin of a vehicle with a body-shell and a suspension system linked to the body-shell by at least one point of attachment, with the vehicle rolling at a given speed on a rolling device with a macrorough rolling surface. The method includes: determining a global transfer function of the body-shell, determining a global admittance of the body-shell, determining an impedance of the suspension system, determining, while rolling on the macrorough rolling surface, lockup loads of the suspension system, and combining together the global transfer function of the body-shell, the global admittance of the body-shell, the impedance of the suspension system, and the lockup loads of the suspension system to obtain a prediction of noise/comfort performance (P) inside the cabin.
