Abstract: Tires in use wear in a host of ways. One negative manner in which tires, especially truck tires, may wear is in an irregular fashion. When this phenomenon happens, the tread of the tire may become unusable, forcing the user to replace the tire, which is undesirable. This invention poses a new and useful way of preventing irregular wear, increasing the useful life of the tire tread, by placing simple sipes in the center region of the tread and complex sipes in the shoulder regions of the tread.

  • Publication number: 20110259489
Abstract: Reinforcing ply (13, 14, 15) designed to produce a tire (1) formed of an assembly of threads, mostly coated with a poorly electrically conducting rubber compound (130, 140, 150), parallel with each other and making a given angle with the longitudinal direction of said ply. The ply includes through-threads (131, 141, 151) coated with one or more layers of rubber compounds, of which the outer layer is formed of an electrically conducting rubber compound. The through-threads are inserted between the threads coated with the poorly electrically conducting rubber compound (130, 140, 150) at a pitch and in a given arrangement in such a way as to form one or more electrically conducting pathways between the upper part and the lower part of the ply.

  • Publication number: 20110259490
Abstract: A tyre includes a tread strip configured in such a way that, beyond a predetermined radial wear threshold, at least one pair of first and second sounding cavities is exposed. Each first and second sounding cavity is arranged respectively in a first and second circumferential groove of the tread strip. Each sounding cavity of the pair is connected to the other sounding cavity of the pair by a sounding channel formed in the tread strip. Each cavity of the pair and the associated channel: open radially to the outside of the tyre, and are configured so that they are closed by a ground surface in a substantially airtight manner as they pass through a contact patch where the tyre makes contact with the ground surface.

  • Publication number: 20110259498
Abstract: Radial tire for motor vehicle, comprising: a crown comprising a tread provided with at least one radially outer part intended to come into contact with the road; two beads, two sidewalls connecting the beads to the tread, a carcass reinforcement passing into the two sidewalls and anchored in the beads; the crown being reinforced by a crown reinforcement or belt placed circumferentially between the carcass reinforcement and the tread; a radially inner elastomer layer known as a “sublayer”, having a formulation different from the formulation of the radially outer elastomer layer, this sublayer being placed between the radially outer layer of the tread and the belt, wherein said sublayer comprises at least one diene elastomer and, as a high-density filler, more than 50 phr of particles having a density of greater than 4 g/cm3. This sublayer of specific formulation has the ability to reduce the rolling noise emitted by the tire without compromising its usage properties.

  • Publication number: 20110259493
Abstract: Tire having a tread comprising at least two grooves of generally circumferential orientation, a plurality of transverse grooves (6), each transverse groove culminating in openings into two circumferential grooves, the circumferential and transverse grooves having appropriate cross sections for allowing, when running, a flow of liquid present on the road surface, a plurality of closing devices located in these grooves, each closing device closing at least partly the cross section of a groove, each closing device delimiting, with one end of a transverse groove, a length of groove LR of between half and three-quarters of the length of circumferential groove in contact, the length measured under nominal conditions of load and pressure, this tire being characterized in that each closing device is designed to flex and open the section of groove in which it is placed, under the action of a flow of liquid so as to allow the said liquid to flow when running on a water-covered road surface.

  • Publication number: 20110263750
Abstract: The present invention relates to a tyre having a tread comprising a rubber composition that comprises at least: as a first diene elastomer, between 5 and 25 phr of a styrene-nitrile-butadiene terpolymer (SNBR) having a nitrile monomer content between 4 and 18% by weight; a second diene elastomer other than SNBR; a reinforcing filler; a liquid plasticizer, the glass transition temperature of which is below ?20° C. The invention makes it possible to improve the properties of rolling resistance and of grip on wet ground of tire treads.

  • Publication number: 20110252862
Abstract: In a method for alerting to the wear of a tyre that includes a tread strip equipped with at least one circumferential groove, the running noise made by the tyre running along a ground is measured, from the measured running noise, a noise emitted in a predetermined range of frequencies close to a predetermined resonant frequency of a portion of the circumferential groove during running is isolated, the amplitude of the isolated noise is measured, and the measured amplitude is compared against a predetermined alert threshold.
