  • Patent number: 8928936
Abstract: Systems and associated methods provide for converting an RGB color image to a grayscale image via a lookup table of correction values. The lookup table is generated and used to compensate for errors in converting the color image to the grayscale image. The lookup table is generated by generating a reference image having pixels with color values in the RGB color space, converting a first copy of the reference image to a grayscale reference image via interpolation, and converting a second copy of the reference image to an intermediate image. The intermediate image comprises chrominance and luminance values (e.g., YCbCR or YCgCo). The chrominance values are removed from the intermediate image. The intermediate image is then compared to the grayscale reference image to generate the correction values. The lookup table may then be applied to a grayscale image that has been converted from the RGB color image.

  • Patent number: 8929483
Abstract: Digital baseband channel signals are received and up-sampled to a common sampling rate. The digital baseband channel signals are filtered using low pass filters. Complex frequency shifting is performed of the filtered digital baseband channel signals based on the associated different channel frequencies to obtain digital channel signals, which are combined to generate a digital wideband multi-channel signal that is a digital representation of an analog wideband multi-channel signal that is based on combining analog channel signals that correspond to the analog baseband channel signals. A non-linear pre-distortion of the digital wideband multi-channel signal is performed, the non-linear pre-distortion adding at least one of a gain and a phase shift to the digital wideband multi-channel signal such that the digital channel signals included within the digital wideband multi-channel signal are compensated for a non-linear distortion effected on the analog wideband multi-channel signal by a high-power amplifier.

  • Patent number: 8928325
Abstract: An apparatus and process is provided for detecting elemental mercury in soil. A sacrificial electrode of aluminum is inserted below ground to a desired location using direct-push/cone-penetrometer based equipment. The insertion process removes any oxides or previously found mercury from the electrode surface. Any mercury present adjacent the electrode can be detected using a voltmeter which indicates the presence or absence of mercury. Upon repositioning the electrode within the soil, a fresh surface of the aluminum electrode is created allowing additional new measurements.

  • Patent number: 8925282
Abstract: A bridge system is provided that utilizes foundation structures that are formed of the combination of precast and cast-in-place concrete. A method of constructing the combination precast and cast-in-place concrete foundation structures involves receiving at a construction site a precast concrete foundation unit having elongated upright wall members that define a channel therebetween, and multiple upright supports located within the channel; placing the precast concrete foundation unit at a desired use location; delivering concrete into the channel while the precast concrete foundation unit remains at the desired use location; and allowing the concrete to cure-in-place such that the elongated upright wall members are connected to the cured-in-place concrete by reinforcement embedded within both the cured-in-place concrete and the upright wall members. The bridge units may be placed before the pouring step to embed the bottoms of the bridge units in the cast-in-place concrete.

Abstract: A system and method for generating a simulated three-dimensional object is disclosed. An initial image of a three-dimensional object is generated at an initial reference position on X, Y and Z axes. A number of displacement images of the object is generated at each of a number of angular offsets about one or more of the X, Y, or Z axes. Each of the displacement images are displayed on an electronic display in a sequence according to a direction around one or more of the X, Y, or Z axes. The electronic display is then rotated around the one or more of the X, Y, or Z axes at a speed synchronized to the spaced angles of displacement of the plurality of images.
