Abstract: III-nitride materials are described herein, including material structures comprising III-nitride material regions (e.g., gallium nitride material regions). In certain cases, the material structures also comprise substrates having relatively high electrical conductivities. Certain embodiments include one or more features that reduce the degree to which thermal runaway occurs, which can enhance device performance including at elevated flange temperatures. Some embodiments include one or more features that reduce the degree of capacitive coupling exhibited during operation. For example, in some embodiments, relatively thick III-nitride material regions and/or relatively small ohmic contacts are employed.

  • Publication number: 20200026232
Abstract: An image forming apparatus has a sheet feed portion, a conveying portion, a control portion, a first sensor having the detection position at a first position in the sheet conveying passage, and a second sensor having the detection position at a second position downstream of the first position in the sheet conveying direction. The control portion performs first sensing to sense whether the sheet's rear end has passed the first position within a first time of the start of the feeding and second sensing to sense whether the sheet's rear end has passed the second position within a second time of the start of the feeding, Even if the control portion is unable to sense passage of the sheet's rear end in the first sensing, when it senses passage of the sheet's rear end in the second sensing, it makes the conveying portion continue feeding the sheet.

  • Publication number: 20200028592
Abstract: A self-coherent optical data receiver configured to use direct detection of optical signals that is compatible with full (amplitude/phase) electric-field reconstruction. To enable the latter, the direct-detected optical signal includes CW light whose carrier frequency is spectrally aligned with a roll-off edge of the data-modulated portion of the signal. In an example embodiment, the receiver may employ two digital filters placed upstream and downstream, respectively, of the field-reconstruction circuit. The upstream filter is configurable to at least partially cancel the effects of SSBI caused by the direct detection. The downstream filter can be configured to perform electronic dispersion compensation and/or electronic polarization demultiplexing. In different embodiments, a filter controller may operate to adaptively change the filter coefficients of the upstream filter based on different signals generated within the digital receive chain.

  • Patent number: 10537828
Abstract: A method for preventing fouling of a demister is disclosed. A process fluid is provided into a vessel. A gas is provided to a gas inlet of the vessel. The gas comprises a component that desublimates, crystallizes, solidifies, reacts, or a combination thereof, in the process fluid, forming a first solid. The gas is passed through the process fluid, the component of the gas forming the first solid, resulting in a component-depleted gas. The component-depleted gas is passed out of the process fluid, causing splashing or spurting of the process fluid and the first solid. The diverter section is provided between the demister and the gas inlet, the diverter section comprising a physical obstruction preventing the process fluid and the first solid from splashing or spurting onto the demister. In this manner, fouling of the demister is prevented.

  • Patent number: 10538162
Abstract: A power conversion system includes an AC to DC conversion circuit, a voltage detector, a step-down chopper circuit, a power conversion device for auxiliary power sources, and a control unit. The AC to DC conversion circuit converts AC power supplied from overhead wires via a transformer into DC power. The voltage detector detects a voltage of AC power supplied from the transformer. The step-down chopper circuit steps down the voltage of DC power produced through conversion by the AC to DC conversion circuit. The power conversion device for auxiliary power sources converts the DC power stepped down by the step-down chopper circuit into power for driving loads mounted in an electric vehicle and supplies it to the loads. The control unit controls the AC to DC conversion circuit and the step-down chopper circuit such that the voltage of AC power detected by the voltage detector approaches a reference voltage.
