Abstract: A distributed optical fibre sensor is discussed which is arranged to detect acoustic vibration and at least a first of two or more other measurands, which could be for example two or more of changes in temperature, changes in static pressure, and changes in static strain. At least first and second optical waveguides are arranged to have optical path length response characteristics to at least one of the other measurands which are different from each other, and an analyser is arranged to determine at least said first other measurand using differences between the interference signals from each of the optical waveguides.
Abstract: An imaging device comprises a first chip that includes a first semiconductor substrate including a photoelectric conversion region. The first chip includes a first insulating layer including a first multilayer wiring electrically connected to the photoelectric conversion region. The first multilayer wiring includes a first vertical signal line (VSL1) to output a first pixel signal, and a first wiring. The imaging device includes a second chip including a second semiconductor substrate including a logic circuit. Abstract: In some examples, a tunable dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) may include a fiber optic link analyzer, executed by at least one hardware processor, to determine, based on a user input, for a fiber optic link of a plurality of fiber optic links of a fiber optic cable, whether the fiber optic link is active or not active. The DWDM OTDR may specify, based on a determination that the fiber optic link is active, a test wavelength that is different from a data transmission wavelength of data transmitted by the fiber optic link. A DWDM multiplexer may be collocated with the DWDM OTDR to selectively connect, based on the specified test wavelength, the DWDM OTDR to the fiber optic link of the plurality of fiber optic links for testing of the fiber optic link.
Abstract: A method of operating a refrigeration cycle apparatus uses a compressor to compress a coolant. The compressed coolant is fed to a condenser for release of heat, the condensed coolant is later fed to a primary side of an internal heat exchanger for release of heat, and the cooled coolant is guided through an expansion device. The coolant expanded in the expansion device is fed to an evaporator for absorption of heat, the evaporated coolant is later fed to a secondary side of the internal heat exchanger for absorption of heat, and the heated coolant is fed to the compressor. For suction gas temperature control, an amount of heat transferred from the primary side to the secondary side of the internal heat exchanger is controlled with the aid of an additional expansion device arranged parallel to the heat exchanger and between the condenser and the evaporator.
Abstract: A method for preparing 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene is provided. According to the method, when a 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene synthesis reaction is carried out at a specific temperature, the amount of heat used in the preparing process can be minimized while attaining the same yield as that of the existing preparing method. In addition, waste solvent generated in the preparing process does not undergo a color change and thus can be reused, and thus energy saving effects can be provided.

Abstract: A reactor may have a catalyst bed for the catalytic treatment of a gas stream, with the catalyst bed extending substantially over a cross section of the reactor. Gas to be treated may axially fly through the catalyst bed. A carrier structure for the catalyst bed that is at least partly floatingly mounted in the reactor may include a sieve element and, radially outwardly, carrier elements fixedly joined to the reactor wall below the sieve element. The sieve element provides a resting surface for the catalyst bed. The sieve element terminates, radially outwardly, at a distance from the reactor wall. The carrier structure also includes support elements for the sieve element that are floatingly mounted in the reactor. An improved floating mounting is thus provided where not only the sieve element itself but also further parts of the carrier structure are mounted to prevent stresses due to thermal expansion.

The insect repellant can include an effective amount of DEET (N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide), OLE (oil of lemon eucalyptus) and essential oils alone or in combination.
