Abstract: A hand-held electronic device and file transfer method are disclosed. The device may comprise a case, a processor and a memory. A case motion sensor and a remote device detector may be coupled to the processor. A communication interface may be coupled to the memory and processor. The processor may be programmed with instructions that, when executed cause the device to recognize a remote device, recognize a gesture from resulting from motion of the case, and transfer a file from the hand-held device to the remote device or vice versa in response to recognition of the gesture. Alternatively, the instructions may cause the device to identify a file to be transferred from a source to a destination, identify the source and/or destination, recognize a gesture resulting from motion of the case, and transfer the file from the source to the destination in response to recognition of the gesture.

  • Publication number: 20080150911
Abstract: A hand-held electronic device is disclosed. The device may comprise a case case having one or more major surfaces; a touch screen disposed on one of the major surfaces, the touch screen; a processor operably coupled to the touch screen; and one or more tactile pixels disposed proximate the touch screen. Each of the tactile pixels includes an actuatable portion coupled to an actuator and a sensor. The actuator and sensor are coupled to the processor. The actuator is configured to actuate in response to instructions from the processor and the sensor is configured to generate signals as inputs to one or more programs executed by the processor when pressure is applied to the actuatable portion. The actuatable portion is actuatable by the actuator between first and second positions. A tactile feel of the actuatable portion is different in the first and second positions.

  • Patent number: 7391409
Abstract: A method and system for interactive interfacing with a computer gaming system is provided. The method includes providing an input device, where the input device is configured to convey mutlti-channel mixed input data that is to be interpreted by the computer gaming system. The method includes identifying an action to be performed by the computer gaming system, and the action is mapped to the mutlti-channel mixed input data provided by the input device. Then, a gearing is applied between the action to be performed by the computer gaming system and the mutlti-channel mixed input data received from the input device. The gearing scales an adjustment to impact the action to be performed by the computer gaming system. The gearing can be set dynamically by the game, by the user, or can be preset by software or user configured in accordance with a gearing algorithm.

  • Publication number: 20080141131
Abstract: Methods, systems, graphical computer interfaces, and computer readable media are disclosed to enable optimizing video frame rendering characteristics for an application. The method includes rendering a video frame and capturing push buffer settings representing the rendering of the video frame. The method also includes modifying an aspect of the push buffer settings while bypassing the application, and re-rendering the frame with the modified aspect. The method further enables comparing the rendering with the re-rendering, and presenting comparison results. Graphical user interfaces are provided to enable the functionality, without having to modify code of the application to appreciate what potential changes to the application can present in terms of performance rendering and processing efficiencies.

  • Patent number: 7373380
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a multi-user application that is configured to operate in various network communication configurations and that can dynamically change communication configurations during an online session of the application. One of the network communication configurations is a client-server configuration, wherein network computers, including at least one server computer and at least one client computer, participate in an online session of the application. The server computer serves application-related data to the client computer during the online session. In another communication configuration of the application, the network computers operate in a peer-to-peer configuration wherein the network computers have the ability to both serve data to and receive data from any of the other network computers that are participating in the online session. The application can switch between the communication configurations during an online session, and is not limited to one or the other for all the computers.
