  • Patent number: 8159990
Abstract: Embodiments include a method of communicating an audio stream from an audio source terminal to a plurality of speaker terminals. A broadcast channel is established for communication from an audio source terminal to a plurality of speaker terminals. A plurality of bidirectional point-to-point control channels are established for controlling wireless communications between the audio source terminal and the speaker terminals, where each of the point-to-point control channels interconnect the audio source terminal and a different one of the speaker terminals. An audio stream is transmitted as a sequence of blocks of audio data in messages from the audio source terminal through the broadcast channel for receipt by all of the speaker terminals. A quality of reception feedback message is received at the audio source terminal from individual ones of the speaker terminals through respective ones of the point-to-point control channels.

  • Publication number: 20120088519
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method in a mobile device and a mobile device for low power identification of its position in an indoor environment, in which beacon transmitters of a beacon system are present. The device receives a notification from at least one of the beacon transmitters of the beacon system that notifies the mobile device that it is within the range of the beacon system. Thus it is the beacon transmitters that perform the continuous scanning to identify if the mobile device is within range and not the mobile device itself. This will reduce the power consumption of the mobile device substantially. The mobile device will than request that the beacon transmitters within range to send data pertaining to their position, and then determine its position by performing calculations based on such data.

  • Patent number: 8154644
Abstract: A system for rendering a digital image includes a rendering device for rendering a digital image and a camera for capturing a sequence of images of a user. A conversion module converts the sequence of images into a manipulation command for altering the rendering of the digital image. In one embodiment, the conversion module is a lip reading module that converts a sequence of images depicting the motion of the user's facial features into text tag or visual effects command. The text tag or command may then be applied to the digital image. The digital image may be divided into portions containing principle subject matter, and a text tag or visual effects command may be generated for one or more of the image portions. A facial detection module may be employed to detect changes in the user's facial features to navigate among the image portions.

Abstract: An electronic device has a display, a controller, and a pair of haptic transducers connected to the display. The controller configures the haptic transducers to momentarily vibrate the display. A pair of sensors disposed on the display detects variations caused by the user touch in the vibrations. Based on an analysis of these variations, the controller can determine whether a user performed at least one of a swipe action and a multi-touch action, across the display.

  • Patent number: 8150072
Abstract: A vibration generator for a portable electronic device includes a speaker driver and a counterweight retained by a housing to form a closed assembly. When a communications transmission is received by the electronic device, an input force signal is transmitted to the speaker driver to apply a force at a frequency substantially below its resonance frequency. Air sealed within the vibration generator between the speaker driver and the counterweight transmits the force signal inputted to the speaker driver to the counterweight with minimal dissipation, thereby causing the counterweight to vibrate at substantially the same frequency as that of the input force signal. The vibrations of the counterweight alert a user that a communications transmission is being received.

  • Patent number: 8150091
Abstract: A flat-panel speaker is attached to an exterior surface of a printed circuit board (PCB) housed within a consumer electronic device. Rather than place the flat-panel speaker within a sealed speaker box and then attach the speaker box to the PCB, as is conventional, the present invention attaches the flat-panel speaker to the exterior surface of the PCB without the speaker box. Removing the speaker box allows designers to reduce the dimensions of the device, and to minimize the complexity of the device.
