Abstract: A portable communication device includes a base assembly and a top assembly that is coupled to the base assembly by a multi-axis hinge assembly. The multi-axis hinge assembly is configured to facilitate sliding motion between the top assembly and the base assembly along a first direction, as well as rotation of the top assembly relative to the base assembly along perpendicular axes. The portable communication device is provided with versatile configurations and modes of operation with a smaller footprint often associated with traditional clamshell devices.
Abstract: An antenna arrangement may include: a ground plane, a feed element, and a radiating element coupled to the feed element, the radiating element being substantially parallel to and vertically displaced from the ground plane by the feed element and a shortening element. The antenna may also include a conductive portion coupled to the ground plane using a switching element, the conductive portion being configured to alter the size of the ground plane.
Abstract: An audio playback device and method searches initiates a web search for images related to music or other audio files being played, downloads images from selected web pages returned by the search engine, and outputs one or more images from the selected web pages on a display to enhance the user's listening experience.

Abstract: A portable communication device includes a first assembly and a second assembly hingedly coupled by an open channel hinge assembly such that the first and second assemblies are movable between a closed position and an open position where the first and second assemblies are substantially coplanar. The device includes a display assembly coupled to the first and second assemblies and configured to slide over the first and second assemblies when in the open position. The movable display assembly is electrically coupled to a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) by a flex recoil system that allows the movable display assembly to remain electrically coupled to the PCBA while moving over the first and second assemblies.

Abstract: A triggering event relating to a function of the mobile communication device is detected. Based on detection, the physical configuration of the mobile communication device is automatically adjusted. A database associating triggering events with physical configurations, in accordance with a predefined policy, may be retrieved. The detected triggering event may be correlated to a particular physical configuration within the database to implement automatic adjustment of the physical configuration of the mobile communication device.
Abstract: A femtocell base station is configured to transmit site-specific services data to in-range wireless devices, using a common broadcast channel. The site-specific services data identifies available services including, but not limited to, alternate radio signals available in the vicinity, such as FM radio signals, wireless local-area network (WLAN) signals, and the like; location-related services, including the availability of location beacon signals and/or location assistance data for use in position determination using assisted-GPS technology; and physical resources available to the device user, such as printers, copy machines, vending services, and the like. An exemplary mobile station is configured to extract site-specific services data from the femtocell base station signal, and to access a second radio signal using the site-specific services data.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to the field of automatic power control (APC) circuitries used in the analog front end of a mobile transmitter. It particularly refers to a power control circuitry (101M, 101N) and a corresponding method for controlling the power level (Pout) of an RF signal (x(t)) to be transmitted at the output port of a variable-gain power amplifier (105) by performing an additional regulation of the APC loop's reference signal (Vref). Thereby, it is proposed to increase the radiated RF power (Pout) in case a transmitting antenna (110) is mismatched to said power amplifier (105) in order to not release an ongoing call. In case there is a subject very close to the terminal antenna, the antenna load is changed and the increased reflected signal is measured.
