Abstract: A method and means by which a mobile phone can participate in a promotional offer that is sponsored by an interested party is disclosed. The sponsor creates a promotional campaign and defines its parameters using promotional offer code (POC) data. The POC data is then pre-provisioned into the mobile phone. If a mobile phone user becomes aware of the promotional campaign and wishes to participate, he navigates his mobile phone menu structure to a “promotions” menu and inputs a POC that was included in the sponsor's advertisements. The mobile phone then links the input POC to the pre-provisioned POC data. Another function in the mobile phone then constructs a promotional offer entry (POE) that conforms to the parameters set out in the pre-provisioned POC data. The POE is then transmitted to the sponsor. The sponsor reviews all valid entries and chooses one or more winners. The sponsor can then broadcast a status message to all entrants to inform them whether they won anything from the promotion.

Abstract: A solid-state image pickup element 1 is structured so as to include: a semiconductor layer 2 having a photodiode formed therein, photoelectric conversion being carried out in the photodiode; a first film 21 having negative fixed charges and formed on the semiconductor layer 2 in a region in which at least the photodiode is formed; and a second film 22 having the negative fixed charges, made of a material different from that of the first film 21 having the negative fixed charges, and formed on the first film 21 having the negative fixed charges.
Abstract: Auxiliary AV data of a lower rate is formed in an auxiliary AV data converting unit on the basis of video and audio data of a main line system. The audio data of the main line system in which the number of channels is equal to 0 and 4 or 8 channels can exist mixedly. In the auxiliary AV data, the number of channels of the audio data is fixed to 8 channels. Audio data showing silence is outputted to the channels which do not correspond to the channels of the audio data of the main line system of the auxiliary AV data. Since the number of channels of the audio data of the auxiliary AV data is fixed irrespective of the number of channels of the audio data of the main line system, the editing or searching operation using the auxiliary AV data can be executed without paying attention to a change in the number of channels of the audio data of the main line system, or the like.
Abstract: A compensator unit compensates frequency-dependent imbalance between a sampled in-phase and a sampled quadrature phase signal. The compensator unit includes a delay channel (381) and a filter channel (382). The delay channel (381) delays an intermediate signal x(t), which is obtained by superposition of the sampled in-phase and quadrature phase signals, by an integer multiple greater than zero. The filter channel (382) includes a filter (320) with a complex conjugated block (321) and with variable filter coefficients determined on base of autocorrelation function values of the intermediate signal x(t). The filter coefficients are determined such that the complementary autocorrelation of a compensator output signal y(t) is minimized for the filter span.
Abstract: A method of forming a semiconductor thin film includes: a step of forming an amorphous semiconductor thin film over a transparent substrate; a step of forming a crystalline semiconductor thin film by irradiating the amorphous semiconductor thin film with laser light to provide heat treatment and thereby crystallizing the amorphous semiconductor thin film; and an inspection step of inspecting the crystalline semiconductor thin film. The inspection step includes a step of obtaining a transmission image of the crystalline semiconductor thin film by irradiating the crystalline semiconductor thin film with light from a rear side of the transparent substrate and taking an image, and a screening step of performing screening of the crystalline semiconductor thin film based on the obtained transmission image.
Abstract: A hand-held wireless communications device includes a camera integrated within a housing of the wireless communications device, a front-facing lens assembly to focus light onto the camera, a display, and a controller connected to the camera and the display. The controller controls the camera to capture an image of another device that is in front of its display. The device can then analyze the image to extract information specific to the other device, and utilize that information to identify and authenticate the other device. Once identified and authenticated, the devices are able to share data and information with each other.
