Abstract: A skate includes a skate boot with two opposed boot side portions extending from heel and ankle portions to a forward edge of the boot side portions. A forward-most eyelet is the eyelet closest to the forward edge. A toe cap is connected to the skate boot at a front end, and the toe cap has toe cap side portions extending rearwardly to a rear edge of the toe cap disposed forward of the forward-most eyelet. A toe cap extension extends rearwardly from the rear edge of the toe cap and over a portion of the boot side portions defined rearward of the forward edge and below the forward-most eyelet. The toe cap extension engages the portion of the skate boot and allows movement of at least the skate boot rearward of the forward-most eyelet during formation of the skate boot or use thereof.

Abstract: A hockey goalkeeper leg pad includes a core, a skin covering the core, a lateral leg flap and a medial leg flap defining a leg channel, and a lacing member. The lacing member includes lower tabs and upper tabs. The lower tabs and the upper tabs each defining apertures with a front inner surface of the skin covering the core, and the lower tabs and the upper tabs being attached to the front inner surface at lateral outer ends thereof. The upper tabs are laterally offset outward of the lower tabs relative to a longitudinal centerline of the lacing member. A lace extends through the lower apertures and the upper apertures, as well as through the core to secure the core to the lacing member.

Abstract: A shin guard for a hockey player includes a knee portion having a knee cap adapted to cover a knee of the hockey player, and a shin portion located below the knee portion and extending from a lower end adapted to be proximate a foot of the hockey player toward the knee cap to cover a shin of the hockey player. The shin portion includes a shin cap having an outer side facing away from the shin and an inner side facing toward the shin, a main padded liner overlapping at least a portion of the inner side of the shin cap, and a shin comfort liner mounted internally of the main padded liner. The shin comfort liner is movable relative to the shin cap between first and second positions, the shin comfort liner moving away from the knee cap from the first position to the second position.

Abstract: A tendon guard for a skate boot includes (a) a structural guard frame configured to protect an Achilles tendon of a wearer of the skate boot; and (b) a mount configured to join the guard frame to a shell of the skate boot. The mount includes a mount flex portion having sufficient flexibility to permit rearward movement of an upper portion of the frame in response to application of a rearward force on the upper portion by a lower leg of the wearer during plantarflexion. The mount flex portion has sufficient resiliency to urge the upper portion back toward a resting position when the rearward force is relieved.

Abstract: A sport helmet has an outer shell including a first shell and a second shell movable relative to the first shell; levers hingedly connected to the first shell on left and right sides of the sport helmet for adjustably securing the first and second shells together; and finger-engageable locking actuators for selectively allowing movement of the levers from the engaged position to the disengaged position, the finger-engageable locking actuators being engaged to anchoring projections receivable within anchoring apertures, the finger-engageable locking actuators movable between a locked position and an unlocked position, wherein in the locked position movements of the levers relative to the first shell are limited via the anchoring projections, and wherein in the unlocked position the anchoring projections are disengaged from the anchoring apertures such that the levers are pivotable between the engaged position and the disengaged position.

Abstract: A method of method of manufacturing customized inserts for a boot, such as a skate boot, that is at least partially thermoformable includes receiving numerical data corresponding to a tridimensional shape of a wearer's foot, and manufacturing a medial side insert and a lateral side insert based on the tridimensional shape of the wearer's foot. The medial side insert and the lateral side insert are shaped to be insertable into the boot with a core that is dimensioned to generally correspond to a foot size of the boot, with a medial internal surface of the medial side insert and a lateral internal surface of the lateral side insert abutting respective outer surfaces of the core.

The tongue has an upper end and a lower end, and a medial edge and a lateral edge, and a longitudinal center axis of the tongue extends between the upper and lower ends and is spaced equidistantly between segments of the medial and lateral edges. The longitudinal center axis divides the tongue into a medial segment and a lateral segment. The medial and lateral segments are asymmetrical about the longitudinal center axis.

Abstract: A method of customizing a boot, for example a skate boot, includes generating a tridimensional digital representation of a wearer's foot using numerical data obtained by scanning the wearer's foot. A boot with a foot size corresponding generally to a foot length of the wearer's foot is selected. A core is also selected. The core, a medial side insert and a lateral side insert are inserted into an internal space of the boot such that the medial side insert and the lateral side insert straddle the core. The medial side insert and the lateral side insert are manufactured based on the tridimensional shape of the foot. At least a portion of the boot is then heated such that the boot is thermoformed to follow surfaces of the medial and lateral side inserts. The core, the medial side insert and the lateral side insert are then removed from the boot.

Abstract: A protective helmet including an outer shell, and a liner assembly received in the outer shell and connected to the outer shell, the liner assembly defining a front portion configured to overlay a front of a head of a wearer, a rear portion configured to overlay a rear of the head of the wearer, a top portion disposed above and out of contact with a top of the head of the wearer when the helmet is worn, and two opposed side portions each configured to overlay a respective side of the head of the wearer. Each of the front, rear, side and top portions includes at least one zone where the liner assembly includes a plurality of overlapping layers.

Abstract: A protective helmet with first and second helmet sections each including an outer shell section and an inner layer section of protective material. The first and second helmet sections are displaceable relative to one another to adjust a size of the helmet. Two opposed side protective members are received inwardly of the outer shell sections on opposed sides of the helmet. Means for adjusting a position of the side protective members relative to the inner layer sections of protective material are provided. The means are configured such that, when the protective helmet is adjusted when on the head of the wearer, the protective members remain substantially stationary with respect to the head of the wearer when the inner layer sections are displaced with the first and second helmet sections.

The tongue at its lower end has a pressing member with cooperating first and second segments. The tongue has a tongue connector on at least one of the first and second segments. At least one of the first and second segments is foldable to engage the first segment with the inner surface of the toe portion and the second segment with the outer surface of the toe portion, and to engage the tongue connector with the toe portion connector to removably connect the tongue to the toe portion.

Abstract: A helmet includes a helmet body, and a sweat-collecting strap extending between opposed ends along an interior of the helmet body. The sweat-collecting strap has a gutter between the opposed ends thereof. Each end of the sweat-collecting strap is mounted along one of the side portions of the helmet body. The sweat-collecting strap is displaceable with respect to the helmet body to bias the gutter against a forehead of the wearer above the eyes.

Abstract: A skate boot includes a boot shell having first and second opposite side portions cooperating to define a foot receiving opening therebetween. The first and second side portions have a facing portion extending from the foot receiving opening. A band having a first end portion is received in the boot shell and attached to the boot shell at or adjacent the second side portion. The band extends across an interior of the boot shell and is slidingly received through an opening defined in the first side portion so as to have a second end portion of the band extending outside of the boot shell. The second end portion of the band defines an aperture for receiving a lace.
