  • Patent number: 9400219
Abstract: Metallic thermal emitters consisting of two layers of differently structured nickel gratings on a homogeneous nickel layer are fabricated by soft lithography and studied for polarized thermal radiation. A thermal emitter in combination with a sub-wavelength grating shows a high extinction ratio, with a maximum value close to 5, in a wide mid-infrared range from 3.2 to 7.8 ?m, as well as high emissivity up to 0.65 at a wavelength of 3.7 ?m. All measurements show good agreement with theoretical predictions. Numerical simulations reveal that a high electric field exists within the localized air space surrounded by the gratings and the intensified electric-field is only observed for the polarizations perpendicular to the top sub-wavelength grating. This result suggests how the emissivity of a metal can be selectively enhanced at a certain range of wavelengths for a given polarization.

  • Patent number: 9401442
Abstract: A three-dimensional, microscale-textured, grating-shaped organic solar cell geometry. The solar cells are fabricated on gratings to give them a three-dimensional texture that provides enhanced light absorption. Introduction of microscale texturing has a positive effect on the overall power conversion efficiency of the devices. This grating-based solar cell having a grating of pre-determined pitch and height has shown improved power-conversion efficiency over a conventional flat solar cell. The improvement in efficiency is accomplished by homogeneous coverage of the grating with uniform thickness of the active layer, which is attributed to a sufficiently high pitch and low height of the underlying gratings. Also the microscale texturing leads to suppressed reflection of incident light due to the efficient coupling of the incident light into modes that are guided in the active layer.

  • Patent number: 9401489
Abstract: A method of attaching reduced graphene oxide and/or graphene oxide to a polymer layer that includes: forming a polymer layer having a hydrophobic, exterior surface; subjecting the hydrophobic, exterior surface of the polymer layer to ultraviolet/ozone (UV/O3) exposure to change the hydrophobic, exterior surface to a hydrophilic, exterior surface; and applying reduced graphene oxide and/or graphene oxide to the hydrophilic surface of the polymer layer. The UV/O3 exposure reduces the contact angle of droplets on the exterior surface of the polymer layer so that greater amounts of reduced graphene oxide and/or graphene oxide can be applied to the surface.

  • Patent number: 9396302
Abstract: For global routing using a graphics processing unit (GPU), a method routes a net of node interconnections for a semiconductor design. In addition, the method decomposes the net into subnets. Each subnet has no shared paths. The method further identifies a congested region of the routed net that exceeds routing capacities. In addition, the method correlates the congested region with a plurality of first subnets with workloads within the congested region. The method routes the subnets in parallel using the GPU.

  • Publication number: 20160201049
Abstract: Methods are provided for modulating the activity of multimeric ubiquitin-protein E3 ligases including, but not limited to, E6AP ligase activities. The methods reduce the level of oligomer formation such as homotrimeric E6AP ligase to reduce the enzyme activity. Alternatively, agents are provided that can promote the association of the ligase monomers, thereby increasing the ligase activity. Accordingly, novel therapeutic strategies are provided that are useful for the treatment of pathologies resulting from mutations in the genes encoding the ligases and which adversely increase or decrease a ubiquitination reaction.
