Abstract: A network is provided that includes a first WLAN infrastructure device (WID) that defines a first subnet, and a wireless client device (WCD) that is initially associated with the first WID. The WCD associates with a “current” WID when the wireless client device roams from the first subnet to a second subnet defined by the current WID. Upon successful association, the current WID unicasts a first IGMP query message (IGMPQM) to the WCD that has a MAC header including a destination MAC address that is set to a MAC address of the WCD.

  • Patent number: 7969282
Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatuses for RFID readers forming a reader network are described. In an aspect of the present invention, a plurality of RFID readers are configured to interrogate tags. Furthermore, the readers are configured to communicate with one another. Each of the readers include a ID number which identifies that particular reader within a reader network during communications. Each reader includes a network interface module and an optimization module to receive and process statistical data obtained from other readers in the network. Aspects of the present invention include a ‘primary/secondary’ reader network configuration, as well as a ‘distributed elements’ reader network configuration. A set of operational rules for the environment is indicated, and tag interrogations are optimized according to the rules. Readers may communicate according to a “Listen Before Talk” (LBT) protocol to avoid undesirable interference.

  • Patent number: 7971066
Abstract: A transaction device adds or injects a random noise component into signals representing (x,y) coordinate signals associated with user interface with an input screen associated with the device. The noise component can be generated by converting to analog the output of a random number generator, and then adding the noise component to the x-axis and/or y-axis component of the (x,y) coordinate signal. Alternatively the noise component can be injected into the x-axis and/or y-axis operating potential for the input screen. The result is a masking of the original (x,y) positional information. The randomly generated number is only available internal to the device. The device can use this number to de-crypt the true (x,y) signals, which signals can then be re-encrypted before transmitting from the device.

  • Publication number: 20110148722
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a combined and compact monopole and slot antenna providing circular polarization for various applications, such as ultra high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID). The antenna of the present invention combines a slot antenna with a monopole antenna using a single feed to drive both, effectively resulting in a circular polarized antenna. In an exemplary embodiment, the antenna may be integrated internally to a mobile device and printed on a flex or a printed circuit board (PCB), made from sheet metal, etc. Advantageously, the design of the antenna provides performance similar to circular polarized patch antennas while avoiding the size, weight, and cost.

  • Publication number: 20110148579
Abstract: A method and system for adaptive operation of a power amplifier of an RFID reader device enables more efficient power management of the reader device. The method includes transmitting an RF interrogation signal from an antenna of the RFID reader device (step 505). A reflected signal is then received as a partial reflection of the interrogation signal (step 510). A return loss value is then estimated by comparing at least one parameter of the interrogation signal and at least one parameter of the reflected signal (step 515). Finally, an operating point of the power amplifier is adjusted in response to the return loss value (step 520).
