  • Publication number: 20030048313
Abstract: In a printer system composed of a plurality of printer devices, the speed of the recording medium to be printed and of the intermediate carrier in every printer device following a printer device is adapted to the changing dimensions of the recording medium. For example, the changes in the recording medium that occur due to the fixing of toner images on the recording medium and that lead to a degradation of the print image are considered in following printer devices.

  • Patent number: 6532276
Abstract: A method for determining the material of a detected item in objects, especially explosives in luggage, using X-ray diffraction. In this method, wherein scatter radiation deflected at the crystal-lattice structure of the material is measured and compared to characteristic energy spectra or diffraction spectra of various explosives, the absorption by the material influences the X-ray diffraction spectrum, so that information is missing, and inaccurate conclusions may be drawn regarding the material. To improve this method, the primary beam of an X-ray source is used for measuring the absorption. The beam passes through the material, and, from the absorption, an average atomic number of the material is determined, and this additional information is used for the identification of material known by comparing the recorded spectra with diffraction spectra.

  • Publication number: 20030043452
Abstract: It is the object of a device for converting a fundamental laser frequency to other frequencies to further increase the conversion efficiency in successive nonlinear processes at a low cost with respect to material and alignment and in a space-saving compact arrangement and to make use of the advantages of noncritical phase matching for this purpose. Between two nonlinear optical crystals for generating a first new frequency and for frequency mixing of a pair of laser beams which is generated in the first crystal and whose laser beams are polarized perpendicular to one another, there is arranged another birefringent crystal which is penetrated by the pair of laser beams and in which nonlinear optical characteristics are prevented, so that the pair of laser beams exits from the birefringent crystal with unchanged frequencies.

  • Publication number: 20030042717
Abstract: An airbag module comprises an airbag and a front cover which is made of plastic. The front cover has a middle part and, surrounding the middle part, a predefined outlet opening for the airbag. In the closed state of said cover, the opening is surrounded by a ring-shaped part of the cover. The ring-shaped part is removed to free the outlet opening when the airbag is unfolded. The middle part is attached to the module in such a way that, when the airbag unfolds, the middle part is prevented from moving freely. The module further comprises a reinforcement ring which is embedded in the middle part and runs adjacent and along an inner edge of the ring-shaped part of the cover and attaches the middle part to the module, preventing it from moving freely when the airbag unfolds.

  • Patent number: 6529856
Abstract: In order to analyze errors in a high-performance printing system, it is common to transfer the system environment to a service printing system and to conduct an analysis there. The aim of the invention is to simplify and accelerate this diagnosis. To this end, only the data, especially with regard to resources, which had been required by the printing system during a print job that caused an error condition is gathered, transferred and analyzed.

  • Patent number: 6520087
Abstract: A printer includes a printer carrier having a surface for receiving ink for transfer printing onto a carrier material, such as paper. Areas of the surface print carrier are ink attracting and others are made ink repelling. The ink repelling areas are formed by providing the surface with a layer of a substance in a solid phase, such as water in the form of ice. The ice layer repels the ink as it is applied so that the ink is only held on the surface of the print carrier at the areas that are ice free. The ice layer is formed by cooling the surface using a cooling mechanism to form a coating of frost due to condensation. A surface tension reducer for water is coated on the surface prior to cooling the surface. A laser or other radiation emitter structures the ice layer to form the print image.
