  • Patent number: 4191948
Abstract: A digital transmission system comprises a transmitter and a receiver for use in a security system. An alarm code is set by means of switches in both the transmitter and receiver and is indicative of the address or location of a monitored location. The location as monitored contains a sensor which is in either an opened or a closed condition indicative of a secure or unsecure status. The transmitter operates to transmit a digital code for each change in the status of the loop. The code contains bits which define the alarm code or address, while additional bits define the loop status as opened or closed in conjunction with the condition of a battery which is used to power the transmitter. The receiver is adapted to receive the transmitted signal and is operative to compare the transmitted address with the code stored or programmed by the receiver switches. If a valid code is received within a predetermined interval, the receiver operates to decode the loop status by means of an updown counter.

  • Patent number: 4169007
Abstract: A dryer-cooling machine for combining a single face corrugated paper web whose flute peaks are wetted by lines of water-based adhesive with a liner web. The machine serves to cure the adhesive and thereby bond the webs together to form doubleface corrugated board. The singleface web and the liner web which overlies the flute peaks are transported by a conveyor belt through a heating zone and a cooling zone. In the heating zone, the belt carrying the webs passes through a funnel. Air is blown through the funnel to create in the converging region above the webs a static pressure which forces the liner into intimate contact with the flute peaks. Above this region are infrared heater elements. The wall of the funnel between the heater elements and the converging region is permeable to infrared rays whereby these rays penetrate the region and are absorbed by the liner to heat the wet adhesive, the resultant water vapors being carried away by the air flowing through the funnel.

  • Patent number: 4163255
Abstract: Each decoder has a random access memory storing program code numbers, a security number, a customer identification number, and program identification numbers utilized for billing purposes. Communication between each decoder and a central computer is subscriber-initiated. The program code numbers must be updated periodically by means of a computer-decoder transmission which takes place only after the program identification numbers have been transmitted from the decoder to the computer. During predetermined cycles in the system sequence, the read-out of the random access memory takes place in reverse order and starting at an arbitrary start point hard-wired into each decoder. Confusion signals are transmitted while program identification numbers already transmitted to the computer are erased in the decoder memory. The communication through the telephone network takes place by frequency shift keying.

  • Patent number: 4160499
Abstract: In a two-lever control unit including a shaft mounted on the main body of the unit, a clutch operating plate and a throttle operating plate both rotatably supported by the shaft, a clutch lever for moving the clutch operating plate and a throttle lever for moving the throttle operating plate, a locking pin extends through a bore in the main body and has one end engageable in three locking cavities formed in the clutch operating plate and the other end engageable in a locking cavity formed in the throttle operating plate. One of the operating plates, when turned, causes the locking pin to lock the other operating plate. Thus, the clutch lever, when operated, locks the throttle lever, whereas when the throttle lever is operated, the clutch lever is locked. This simple structure gives the control unit greatly improved safety.

  • Patent number: 4157618
Abstract: Axial extensions connected to the stationary hubs of the steerable wheels of a vehicle, each of which axial extensions angularly mounts a vertical member adjustable to be in the same plane as the turning axis of its corresponding steerable wheel, and supports a pendular pointer and cooperating scale for directly indicating the camber and caster angles of its corresponding steerable wheel. Stationary parallel brackets are anchored outside and adjacent each wheel of the vehicle for mounting adjustable slide blocks for supporting gauge plates and toe-in gauges, which blocks are adjustable to be directly vertically below the axes of the wheels. The gauge plates cooperate with plumb bobs from the axial extensions and are used for setting the vertical members on their axial extensions to be in the same plane with the turning axes of the steerable wheels.

  • Patent number: 4148063
Abstract: At the television transmitting end, the program audio signals to be encoded are limited to a range of 50 to 7,500 Hz. A 202 KHz signal is modulated by the so-limited audio signal and the resultant upper side-band is heterodyned against an upper side-band derived from modulating the 202 KHz signal by video horizontal drive signals. Only the lower side-band created by the heterodyning process is transmitted. At the receiver, the received single sideband signal is applied to a product detector whose other input receives the output of a horizontal drive oscillator operating in synchronism with the corresponding oscillator at the transmitter. The baseband audio signal is separated from the upper sideband signal at the product detector output by means of a low pass filter.

  • Patent number: 4130833
Abstract: The standard composite television signal is modulated onto an intermediate frequency carrier signal. The so-modulated signal is applied to the input of a first and second frequency converter for conversion respectively to a first or second UHF or VHF output frequency. The two converters are enabled alternately, each for a predetermined number of frames. The resultant signals are summed and transmitted to a receiver location. At the receiver location, the power is split along two channels. Two tuner-mixers, one in each channel, and tuned, respectively, to the first and second output frequency, respectively convert the incoming signal components having the first and second frequency to the same intermediate frequency. The two intermediate frequency signals are summed and converted to the proper frequency for reception on standard television receiver.

  • Patent number: 4097359
Abstract: An electrically conductive rack or frame for transporting and supporting workpieces to be coated, and wherein the workpieces are in electrical contact with and supported on readily removable hooks that are electrically connected to and supported on the frame of the rack. The workpiece-supporting hooks are detachably engaged in struck-out, die-stamped sockets formed in the rack. The rack is also provided with die-stamped locking projections which prevent the hooks from becoming accidentally disengaged from the rack. A removable cover further safeguards the electrical connection between the hooks and the rack and prevents an undesired accumulation of coating material on the interconnecting portions of the hooks and rack.

  • Patent number: 4091417
Abstract: A predetermined pattern of code signals is periodically inserted into the transmitted encoded television signal. The pattern is so chosen that a bistable circuit at the receiver changes state for each received signal. A counter counts the number of state changes and, if correct, a validation signal is furnished. The validation signal allows recording of the billing charge for the program and transmission of the decoded signal to the television receiver.

  • Patent number: 4082921
Abstract: The computer at the central office is connected to the automatic answering system either with or without ringing the subscriber's telephone. Tones sent by the computer to the subscriber system are filtered and compared to a reference signal and a connect signal is furnished when the comparator outputs indicate that the tones signifying the particular billing system have been received. The connect signal energizes a relay which connects the billing system to the telephone line. A holding circuit for the relay is also energized. A first time delay circuit furnishes a signal to start data transmission from the billing system to the computer a short time after receipt of the connect signal. A billing system furnishes an "access complete" signal deenergizing the holding circuit when billing data transmission is complete.

  • Patent number: 4068264
Abstract: At the sending end randomly generated binary code number signals are inserted into predetermined lines of the vertical retrace interval. The code number signals are also processed in accordance with a program assignment code to change or leave unchanged a predetermined characteristic of the television signal. Periodically, program identification signals, each signifying a program identification number, are inserted into the television signal instead of the binary code number signals. At the receiving end, the program identification signals are utilized to address a random access memory which furnishes program assignment signals. The program assignment signals control logic circuits to process the code number signals in accordance with the same program assignment code utilized at the transmitter. The output of these logic circuits is then utilized to decode the received encoded signal.
