Abstract: A media presentation and distribution system (MPDS) communicatively coupled to a client device, which handles media content distribution via a content delivery network, to a client device associated with a user: identifies candidate time intervals in programming media content played at the client device based on at least a request received from the client device. The MPDS retrieves media content from a media store in the MPDS. The media content is retrieved based on at least one of the user intent information and a plurality of targeting parameters associated with the user. The MPDS dynamically generates personalized media content that corresponds to the candidate time intervals in the programming media content and further instructs playback of the dynamically generated personalized media content at the identified candidate time intervals based on the specified version of the programming media content played at the client device.

Abstract: An electrical device providing audible and haptic communication with its user includes a touch screen, an array of piezoelectric elements, a memory, and a processor. The touch screen is divided into touch regions and each touch region carries one piezoelectric element. When receiving touch inputs from a user, the processor uses data and programs stored in the memory to (1) determine which touch region the touch input is located in, (2) determine which piezoelectric element corresponds to the determined touch region, and (3) vibrate the determined piezoelectric element at a predetermined frequency. The electrical device can output sound by (1) obtaining a signal of the sound to be output and (2) vibrating the piezoelectric element, or more than one at different predetermined frequencies, to output an audible sound.

Abstract: A data storage system according to certain aspects manages and administers the sharing of storage resources among clients in the shared storage pool. The shared storage pool according to certain aspects can provide readily available remote storage to clients in the pool. A share list for each client may be used to determine where data is stored within the storage pool. The share list may include clients that are known to each client, and therefore, a user may feel more at ease storing the data on the clients in the storage pool. Management and administration of the storage pool and backup and restore jobs can be performed by an entity other than the client, making backup and restore more streamlined and simple for the clients in the pool.

Abstract: Methods and systems for coordinating migration for a database of a service are described herein. Multiple releases of the service may be simultaneously implemented, and these multiple releases may access a shared database. As new releases of the service are activated, the database may be incrementally migrated to a new data schema version. The new data schema version may be compatible with each release of the service that is in use. After a migration has begun, instances of the service may be instructed to perform database operations using methods compatible with the new data schema version. Continuation tokens may be returned during the migration, which indicate portions of the shared database that have not yet been migrated. If an error occurs during the migration, the continuation tokens may be discarded, and the migration may be restarted.

Abstract: The data storage system according to certain aspects can manage the archiving of virtual machines to (and restoring of virtual machines from) secondary storage. The system can determine whether to archive virtual machines based on usage data or information. The usage information may include storage usage, CPU usage, memory usage, network usage, events defined by a virtual machine software or application, etc. The system may archive virtual machines that are determined to have a low level of utilization. For example, a virtual machine can be archived when its usage level falls below a threshold level. The system may create a virtual machine placeholder for an archived virtual machine, which may be a “light” or minimal version of the virtual machine that acts as if it is the actual virtual machine. By using a virtual machine placeholder, a virtual machine may appear to be active and selectable by the user.
Abstract: A data storage environment can include one or more virtual machines instantiated on a host computing device. Based on physical location data of the one or more virtual machines received from the host computing device, a storage manager can control the performance of a secondary copy operation on one or more storage units that store virtual machine data associated with the one or more virtual machines and/or the performance of a secondary copy operation on the one or more virtual machines.

Abstract: A strain wave gearing wherein the tooth profile of an external teeth of a cup-shaped or silk-hat-shaped external gear is set as follows. The tooth-tip tooth thickness decreases gradually from an external-teeth outer end toward an external-teeth inner end along an external tooth trace direction. In addition, a pressure angle at a pitch point (P) increases gradually from the external-teeth outer end toward the external-teeth inner end along the external tooth trace direction. Thus, it is possible to realize a cup-type or silk-hat-type strain wave gearing in which external teeth mesh with internal teeth in a wide range along the tooth trace direction, rather than only in one cross-section perpendicular to the axis in the tooth trace direction.
