  • Patent number: 9547550
Abstract: Systems and method provide for the writing of a data block and corresponding metadata block to a storage location. Metadata and data block are encoded separately. The metadata and data block may be moved to a different location due to garbage collection, defragmentation, or some other prompt. The metadata is decoded, modified, re-encoded and written to the different location whereas the data block can be written to the new location without re-encoding.

  • Patent number: 9545506
Abstract: Systems and methods for treating a lung of a patient. One embodiment of a method comprises positioning a leadless marker in the lung of the patient relative to the target, and collecting position data of the marker. This method further comprises determining the location of the marker in an external reference frame outside of the patient based on the collected position data, and providing an objective output in the external reference frame that is responsive to movement of the marker. The objective output is provided at a frequency (i.e., periodicity) that results in a clinically acceptable tracking error. In addition, the objective output can also be provided at least substantially contemporaneously with collecting the position data used to determine the location of the marker.

  • Patent number: 9547968
Abstract: A pre-smoke detector and system for use in early detection of developing fires whereby vapors of marker chemicals generated during the melting and/or smoldering of common household materials are detected before detection by conventional smoke detectors. Vapors resulting from heating and resultant vaporization of substances are detected as well as vapors resulting from their breakdown, decomposition, or pyrolysis during the pre-combustion stage. Conventional smoke detectors focus on particle detection and are most effective after a developing fire has produced smoke. To minimize false alarms caused by common household odors, the pre-smoke detectors focus on detecting medium temperature pyrolysis products using sensor coatings that can be consistent with a 10 year operational lifetime and multiple orthogonal detection processes.

  • Patent number: 9545703
Abstract: A sharpening apparatus that may be used by a relatively unskilled person to simultaneously sharpen the two opposed cutting edges of a knife blade by hand and to maintain a sharpened cutting edge along the blade with minimal effort and training is provided by the invention. The apparatus comprises a panel member with a slot partially extending from its top edge, and a pair of sharpening steels that are pivotably mounted to the panel member to swing downwards in a crossed relation across the slot. A pair of leaf spring bias the sharpening steels in their standby position. When the knife blade is moved down through the slot, it comes into contact with crossed sharpening steels to bow them outwards under tension applied by the leaf springs.

  • Patent number: 9549058
Abstract: Device independent access to stored caller data during an emergency communications event. A call server intercepts an emergency call and determines the capabilities of a calling device. Based on calling device capability, the call server uses one or more of the following device independent methods to ascertain a caller identity, independent of a calling device: interactive voice response redirect, HTTP authentication, SIP INFO method, biometric recognition, human interaction, and alternate number dialing. A caller identity is then used to query a subscriber database for a unique caller profile database key (CPDBK) assigned to the caller (unless a CPDBK is already determined). A call server uses a CPDBK to query a caller profile database (CPDB) for relevant caller data. Relevant caller data and the intercepted emergency communications event are then passed to an emergency call processing system, whereby relevant caller data may be used to more effectively address an emergency situation.

  • Patent number: 9548215
Abstract: An endoprosthesis, a method for imaging an endoprosthesis, a method of making an endoprosthesis involve a polymeric substrate that has been modified to have voids embedded within the substrate. The voids are sized to scatter optical radiation from within the substrate so that an optical coherence tomography (OCT) image can be obtained in which an interior region of the substrate can be easily differentiated from empty space and other structures that surround the endoprosthesis. The voids allow for OCT visualization of the polymeric substrate which may be difficult to visualize by other methods such as fluoroscopy.

  • Patent number: 9548681
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating electricity by electromagnetic induction, using a magnetic field modulated by the formation, dissipation, and movement of vortices produced by a vortex material such as a type II superconductor. Magnetic field modulation occurs at the microscopic level, facilitating the production of high frequency electric power. Generator inductors are manufactured using microelectronic fabrication, in at least one dimension corresponding to the spacing of vortices. The vortex material fabrication method establishes the alignment of vortices and generator coils, permitting the electromagnetic induction of energy from many vortices into many coils simultaneously as a cumulative output of electricity. A thermoelectric cycle is used to convert heat energy into electricity.

  • Patent number: 9548624
Abstract: A charger for wirelessly charging an electronic device by electromagnetic induction includes a coil assembly and a control unit. The control unit includes an identification module, a detection module, a comparing module, and an allocating module. The identification module identifies the electronic device. The detection module detects power rating and required electric power of the electronic device. The comparing module compares residual electric power of the wireless charger with the required electric power of the electronic device. The allocating module selects a portion of the residual electric power of the wireless charger. The coil assembly converts the portion of the residual electric power of the wireless charger into electromagnetic waves, and directs the electromagnetic waves to the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 9546922
Abstract: A pressure sensor includes a top cap with a recess formed in an end of the top cap and a cavity formed in the end of the top cap to communicate with the recess. The cavity extends further axially into the top cap than the recess thereby having depth greater than a depth of the recess. Outer edges of the recess extend laterally outward beyond outer edges of the cavity thereby defining a bonding boundary. A silicon substrate has a sensing circuit on a top side thereof. The top cap is bonded to the top side of the silicon substrate in a range from the outer edges of the top cap to the bonding boundary. The recess and the cavity of the top cap face the top side of the silicon substrate and form a reference vacuum cavity. When pressure is exerted on a backside of the substrate, a portion of the substrate is constructed and arranged to deflect.
