Abstract: A heat dissipation structure is disclosed that is especially well-suited for use on aerodynamic systems. The heat dissipation structure is formed within a metallic body that surrounds the heat-generating electronics. The heat dissipation structure is designed to both dissipate the generated heat and also to isolate RF cross-talk between the one or more transmitters and receivers. The heat dissipation structure includes a plurality of ring structures that extend around at least a portion of a body that houses the one or more heat-generating electrical components. The plurality of ring structures may be recessed into the body, and a first spacing between a first adjacent pair of ring structures of the plurality of ring structures is different from a second spacing between a second adjacent pair of ring structures of the plurality of ring structures.

  • Publication number: 20220138981
Abstract: Techniques are provided for image-based estimation of the orientation of an airborne platform. A methodology implementing the techniques according to an embodiment includes rotating an image, provided by a camera on the platform, by a selected rotation angle. The method also includes computing an intensity gradient image based on the rotated image. The method further includes extracting a left quarter segment and a right quarter segment of the intensity gradient image. The method further includes flipping one of the extracted segments about a vertical axis through that segment and comparing the non-flipped segment to the flipped segment to generate a matching score. The comparison may be based on a correlation between the flipped segment and the non-flipped segment. The process may be repeated for additional rotation angles and the rotation angle associated with the highest matching score is selected as the estimated orientation angle of the platform.

  • Publication number: 20220138905
Abstract: The system and method for super resolution processing at long standoff distances in real-time. The system collects a series of image frames and estimated the sift, rotation, and zoom parameters between each of the image frames. A matrix is generated and then an inversion is applied to the matrix to produce a super resolution image of an area of interest while mitigating the effect of any “bad” pixels on image quality. In some cases, the area of interest in user-defined and in some cases image chips are provided by tracking software. A fast steering mirror can be used to steer and/or dither the focal plane array.

  • Publication number: 20220141237
Abstract: A method of detecting abnormal or malicious activity in a point-to-point or packet-switched data communication network includes tapping a link in the network to obtain a data stream transmitted from a node of the network in parallel with transmission of the data stream through the network. The tap is non-invasive because it does not interfere with the normal traversal of the data stream across the network. This is useful for certain applications, such as mission-critical systems, where it is desirable to monitor the network and inspect the data without adversely impacting or otherwise interfering with the normal operation of the system. The method further includes decoding a communication protocol encoded in the data stream to obtain payload data from the data stream, analyzing the payload data to detect abnormal or malicious activity, and notifying a host of the network of the detected abnormal or malicious activity in the payload data.

  • Publication number: 20220132078
Abstract: A system for transmitting optical communications includes a transmitter, a receiver, and a processor. The transmitter includes a light source driven by a driver circuit under control of a micro-controller to transmit an optical signal. The optical signal can be encoded by a frequency-modulated encoding scheme. The receiver includes an optical lens, an imaging sensor configured to receive the optical signal and a memory. The processor is configured to extract one or more frequencies from the optical signal for only those pixels that are changing and thus decreases an overall data rate for the system and allows for larger pixel arrays, thereby decreasing the accuracy requirements of any pointing hardware and to reconstruct a waveform for each of the extracted frequencies.

  • Patent number: 11300682
Abstract: A system and method for a bistatic coherent LIDAR system with lasers locked to a reference. Utilizing atomic absorption lines to lock the frequency for the bistatic system provides an absolute reference, as each of the lasers in the bistatic system would have the same frequency to within the linewidth of the frequency reference. Each laser may also be additionally locked to an optical cavity for increased frequency stability. Not only does such a system provide essentially an infinite aperture, it also reduces laser power requirements because the detector platforms could be much closer to the target than the platform that contains the laser.

Abstract: The fuse mode of a laser guided munition is remotely set and/or changed by encoding fuse mode information onto fuse mode designating light received by the light detector of the munition. Embodiments do not require hardware modification of existing munitions and/or control systems. The mode designating light can be the target designating laser light, and the fuse mode information can be encoded together with counter counter measure (CCM) information. Or the mode designating light source can be a separate laser or non-laser light source. Encoding of the fuse mode information can be by modulation and/or wavelength selection of the mode designating light.
