Patent number: 11177848Abstract: Techniques are provided for signal detection based on the Gibbs phenomenon. A methodology implementing the techniques according to an embodiment includes transforming an input signal to the frequency domain and performing median filtering of amplitudes associated with frequency bins of the frequency domain transformed input signal. The median filtering is performed to attenuate longer duration or continuous signal components that may be present in the input signal. The method also includes identifying a sinc function main lobe in the median filtered signal, the sinc function associated with the Gibbs phenomenon. The method further includes detecting a discontinuity in the input signal based on the identified sinc function main lobe. The discontinuity is associated with a shorter duration signal component that is present in the input signal. Shorter duration signal components may include relatively narrow signal pulses and relatively fast rising or falling signal edges.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2020Date of Patent: November 16, 2021Assignee: BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration Inc.Inventors: Michael A. Patent number: 11168959Abstract: An optical seeker assembly having an optical detector located within the wing or canards of a precision guided munition. The optical seeker provides on-wing processing that generates low bandwidth detection data that can be easily transferred to a primary CPU located within the main body or fuselage of the precision guided munition. The on-wing processing reduces or eliminates the need for optical fibers extending between an optical wedge and an optical detector to reduce the likelihood of optical fibers from impeding in the mechanical deployment of the wing and reduces losses. The reduction or elimination of optical fibers between the optical wedge and the optical detector further enables the optical detection assembly to have a higher pixel ratio or transmitting raw data between the wedge and the detector by sending sampled detection data across a low bandwidth link to a CPU in the main body.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2019Date of Patent: November 9, 2021Assignee: BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration Inc.Inventors: Robert D Frey, Jr., Maxwell L Affleck, Jason H Batchelder, Joseph P Cullen, Matthew H Robichaud
