Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for platoon initialization, redundant lane departure control, and redundant communication operation. A platooning initiation strategy requires continuous communication between vehicles for a more than a pre-defined duration, a demonstration of an operable brake light on the leading vehicle, and command control profile compatibility between the vehicles before allowing the vehicles to mutually platoon or to join an existing platoon. A set of computer readable labels visible to a Lane Departure System placed on a lead vehicle are used by a following vehicle when lane markings become invisible to sensors. A redundant brake lamp operable in a non-visible spectrum is provided for platooning. A specific brake lamp for use exclusively for platooning purposes may be provided.

Abstract: An audiovisual signal is converted from a native format to a digital, packetized interchange format and transported between a capture node and a display node through a switch. The display node converts the audiovisual signal from the interchange format to a displayable format and causes display of the audiovisual signal. The use of a switch for video routing and distribution allows one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-one, and many-to-many distribution. The use of a device-independent interchange format allows concurrent distribution of multiple heterogeneous audiovisual signals.

Abstract: A railcar loading system utilizing roller ball track assemblies, or the like, in the center to enable cargo to be moved thereover in any direction (moving cargo in/out and within the railcar). Powered movement devices (e.g., rollers, conveyors) are utilized in the center to assist in movement of cargo in/out or within the railcar. Roller track assemblies, or the like, are utilized on sides of railcar to move cargo to/from the sides. Airbags may be utilized in track assemblies and powered movement devices to raise devices up when activated. Railcar may include an air connector on each side to provide air to solenoid valve that routes air to appropriate airbags. Cargo table is used to move cargo from cargo bay to railcar. Wireless controller may be used to control railcar and table including what tracks are raised and direction cargo is to be moved (what powered movements devices are operational).
Abstract: A rotor assembly for an electric machine includes a core having at least one post and a cap wherein electrical windings are wound about the rotor assembly to define a pole. The rotation of the rotor and rotor pole relative to a stator generates a current supplied from the electric machine to a power consuming device.

Abstract: A proportioning valve for a reverse osmosis system that controls the production of product water by the differential pressure across the purification membrane. By sensing increasing tank pressure to actuate the proportioning valve, the flow of waste water is restricted. Placement of seals within the cavity of the valve, as well as placement of waste water inlet and outlet ports, protects tension components that provide reverse tank pressure from waste water exposure. A needle valve assembly responsive to an actuating assembly that senses tank pressure removes the need for an inlet tank water port while restricting water flow.
Abstract: A mechanical tower climber system for performing operations on a cell tower includes a body; a plurality of members disposed or connected to the body and each comprising one or more robotic hands; and a wireless interface and a processing device configured to receive commands from a remote operator; climb the cell tower based on the commands; and perform one or more operations on cell site components associated with the cell tower based on the commands and manipulation of the plurality of members and associated one or more robotic hands.

Abstract: A dispensing apparatus for dispensing articles includes a housing and a drive system. The housing defines a hopper chamber to hold the articles, a dispensing outlet, and a dispensing path between the hopper chamber and the dispensing outlet. The drive system includes a belt and a belt actuator operable to drive the belt. The dispensing apparatus is configured such that articles disposed in the hopper chamber are directed onto the belt and the belt, when driven by the belt actuator, conveys the articles received from the hopper chamber in a dispensing direction along the dispensing path toward the dispensing outlet to be dispensed.

Abstract: Material flow amplifiers as disclosed herein overcome drawbacks associated with known adverse flow conditions (e.g., surface erosion and head losses) that arise from flow of certain types of materials (e.g., fluids, slurries, particulates, flowable aggregate, and the like) through a material flow conduit. Such material flow amplifiers provide for flow of flowable material within a flow passage of a material flow conduit (e.g., a portion of a pipeline, tubing or the like) to have a cyclonic flow (i.e., vortex or swirling) profile. Advantageously, the cyclonic flow profile centralizes flow toward the central portion of the flow passage, thereby reducing magnitude of laminar flow. Such cyclonic flow profile provides a variety of other advantages as compared to a parabolic flow profile (e.g., increased flow rate, reduce inner pipeline wear, more uniform inner pipe wear, reduction in energy consumption, reduced or eliminated slugging and the like).
Abstract: A method of correcting an infrared image including a plurality of pixels arranged in an input image array, a first pixel in the plurality of pixels having a first pixel value and one or more neighbor pixel with one or more neighbor pixel values. The first pixel and the one or more neighbor pixels are associated with an object in the image. The method includes providing a correction array having a plurality of correction pixel values, generating a corrected image array by adding the first pixel value to a correction pixel value in the correction array, and detecting edges in the corrected image array. The method also includes masking the detected edges in the corrected image array, updating the correction array, for each correction pixel value in the correction array and providing an output image array based on the correction array and the input image array.
Abstract: Flue gas entry into the tunnel(s) of a furnace is controlled by varying the flow conductivity or size of the individual or groups of openings through the entry ports. The openings can be provided either as gaps between adjacent blocks, or through bores of varying diameter, or as inserts having orifices of varying diameter and a profile matching the ports in which they are placed. Matching the flow conductivity (or cross-sectional flow area) and pressure drop through the individual ports to the desired mass flow, the flue gas flow can be distributed evenly, or as otherwise desired, into different ports, intervals, and/or regions of the tunnel.
Abstract: Techniques for tuning a crossed-field antenna are provided. An example of an antenna system includes a D-plate with a D-plate feed conductor, such that the D-plate is a horizontal conductor raised above and insulated from a ground plane, an E-cylinder with an E-cylinder feed conductor, such that the E-cylinder is a vertical hollow conductive cylinder of smaller diameter than the D-plate, which is mounted concentrically above and insulated from the D-plate, a transmitter tuning circuit configured to receive a signal from a transmitter, an E-cylinder tuning circuit operably coupled to the transmitter tuning circuit and the E-cylinder feed conductor, and a D-plate tuning circuit operably coupled to the transmitter tuning circuit and the D-plate feed conductor.
Abstract: A method for determining uncertainty in a predicted flight path for an aerial vehicle can include determining, by one or more computing devices, uncertainty in a performance model of the aerial vehicle. The method can further include determining, by one or more computing devices, uncertainty in a weather model indicative of weather conditions along the predicted flight path. In addition, the method can include determining, by the one or more computing devices, uncertainty in the predicted flight path based on the uncertainty in the performance model and the uncertainty in the weather model. The method can further include generating, by one or more computing devices, a notification indicating the uncertainty in the predicted flight path.
