Abstract: Methods for non-invasive fat reduction can include targeting a region of interest below a surface of skin, which contains fat and delivering ultrasound energy to the region of interest. The ultrasound energy generates a thermal lesion with said ultrasound energy on a fat cell. The lesion can create an opening in the surface of the fat cell, which allows the draining of a fluid out of the fat cell and through the opening. In addition, by applying ultrasound energy to fat cells to increase the temperature to between 43 degrees and 49 degrees, cell apoptosis can be realized, thereby resulting in reduction of fat.
Abstract: Provided are, among other things, systems, apparatuses methods and techniques for changing the sampling rate of a discrete-time signal. One such apparatus includes a plurality of parallel processing paths, with each path comprising multiple storage banks and multiplexing elements that operate at a subsampling rate.
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for quality of service over broadband networks. A network device performs a probe transaction over a tunnel of a broadband network. Based on the probe transaction, parameters are determined reflecting tunnel performance, and, based on the parameters, target transmit and receive rates are determined for data communications over the tunnel. Based on the target transmit and receive rates, data communications to and from a first node of the network are regulated. When the tunnel comprises a peered tunnel, the regulation of received data communications comprises performing a set rate transaction with a peer second node of the network (the set rate transaction establishes a rate for data transmitted over the tunnel by the peer second node to the first node). When the tunnel comprises a peerless tunnel, the regulation of received data communications comprises shaping data traffic received by the first node over the tunnel.
Abstract: A method of allowing a work-piece to obtain its free state shape while bonded to an adhesive fixture includes allowing the fixing surfaces to change shape or position relative to a fixture base without degrading the holding strength of the adhesive joints. A floating adhesive fixture may use one or more floating adhesive fixture devices. Each device includes a fixture element with an integral fixing surface that can displace relative to the fixture, a clamping system that can release or prevent this motion, and a suspension that keeps the fixture element in a nominal position when the clamping system is disengaged. A method includes unclamping the fixture elements and allowing them to displace as the adhesive joints and work-piece reduce strain energy. The clamping of the fixture elements prepares the fixture for the ensuing manufacturing process.

Abstract: New partial response signaling systems and methods for high spectral efficiency communications are described. In a first implementation, a communication system includes a partial response signaling transmitter and a nonlinear satellite transponder. The partial response signaling transmitter includes a partial response transmit filter configured to convert complex-valued data symbols to a transmit signal using a partial response pulse shaping function; and a modulator configured to modulate the transmit signal onto a carrier wave. The transponder receives and non-linearly amplifies the modulated transmit signal for broadcast to receivers.
Abstract: An adaptive mechanical joint control and stabilization process and device having particular usefulness in mechanical joints employing U-bolts. The method and device monitors at least two predetermined metrics during a fastener tightening clampload cycle and compares the work expended in achieving a target limit value. Through examining the work expended through the monitored metrics, additional clampload cycles will automatically be run until the monitored work expended for all of the fasteners falls within predetermined values increasing the stabilization of the joint and further advantages of increased residual clampload. The process and device is useful in separating clampload cycles which form or yield the fastener from a final clampload cycle which properly elongates the fastener for a secure clampload and stabilized joint.

Abstract: A high voltage, high current vacuum integrated circuit includes a common vacuum enclosure that includes at least two cold-cathode field emission electron tubes, and contains at least one internal vacuum pumping means, at least one exhaust tubulation, vacuum-sealed electrically-insulated feedthroughs, and internal electrical insulation. The cold-cathode field emission electron tubes are configured to operate at high voltage and high current and interconnected with each other to implement a circuit function.
Abstract: A test and monitoring system for a pump installation that initiates a cycle, admits liquid to the pump installation by an electrically-actuated valve, detects a predetermined event, stops admittance of the liquid to the pump installation by the electrically-actuated valve, and indicates results of the test cycle. The predetermined event may be a passage of a predetermined amount of time, an input from a liquid level sensor, or an input from a current sensor. The current sensor may be in electrical communication with a pump of the pump installation. The pump installation may be a sump pump installation.
Abstract: The invention relates to a movable barrier operator with a microelectromechanical positioning sensor, or a movable barrier operator that employs an inertial measuring unit to receive a signal associated with a barrier position, and communicate that signal to one or more devices. A device in communication with the movable barrier operator may be enabled for receiving information pertaining to the barrier and for providing commands that actuate the barrier at precise barrier parameters. In an exemplary embodiment, a movable barrier such as a swing-arm gate may be accurately controlled without requiring manual positioning mechanisms, or otherwise require physical components to set the gate's open and closed limits. Additionally, accurate information may be communicated to a user device, for monitoring and providing maintenance to the movable barrier system.

Abstract: A method and system for providing ultrasound treatment to a tissue that contains a lower part of dermis and proximal protrusions of fat lobuli into the dermis. An embodiment delivers ultrasound energy to the region creating a thermal injury and coagulating the proximal protrusions of fat lobuli, thereby eliminating the fat protrusions into the dermis. An embodiment can also include ultrasound imaging configurations using the same or a separate probe before, after or during the treatment. In addition various therapeutic levels of ultrasound can be used to increase the speed at which fat metabolizes. Additionally the mechanical action of ultrasound physically breaks fat cell clusters and stretches the fibrous bonds. Mechanical action will also enhance lymphatic drainage, stimulating the evacuation of fat decay products.
