Abstract: An assembly includes a double-sided indexable cutting insert and a reinforcing part. The assembly can be used to process metallic materials and the like. The polygonal, double-sided indexable cutting insert of the present invention has a plurality of convex portions at each corner portion. The level of the convex portions is lower than that of the corner cutting edges. Further, the reinforcing part of the present invention has flat portions that come into contact with the convex portions of the cutting insert at each corner portion. When the cutting insert and the reinforcing part are assembled together, the flat portions of the reinforcing part contact at least three convex portions of the cutting insert.
Abstract: A cutting insert has a circular top surface, a bottom surface shaped to be identical to the top surface, a cylindrical side surface for connecting the top and bottom surfaces, and cutting edges formed between the top and side surfaces and between the bottom and side surfaces. The side surface of the cutting insert has a plurality of rotation prevention surfaces substantially perpendicular to the top and bottom surfaces in the circumferential direction of the side surface.

Abstract: A drill tool including a drill body having an inner insert and an outer insert at an end portion of the drill body. The distance from a central axis of the drill body to the outer insert is greater than the distance from the central axis to the inner insert. The cutting edges of the inner and outer inserts can be chamfered with the inner insert chambered at a radially inward portion and the outer insert chamfered at a radially outward portion. The inner insert and the outer insert can be mirror symmetric to one another. The inner insert and the outer insert are mounted to the drill body such that an effective cutting length of the inner insert equals an effective cutting length of the outer insert, the effective cutting lengths being measured in a direction perpendicular to the central axis.
Abstract: A cutting tool includes one or more cutting portions. Each of the cutting portions has a cutting insert and an insert pocket for mounting the cutting insert. The insert pocket has a top surface with one or more projecting portions with a shape of serration, and a bottom supporting surface. The cutting insert has a top surface mating with said projecting portions of the insert pocket, and a bottom surface mating with the bottom supporting surface of the insert pocket. The top surface of the cutting insert has one or more outwardly sloped surfaces mating with the projecting portions of the insert pocket, and one or more inwardly sloped surfaces positioned off the projecting portions.
Abstract: A hexahedral-shaped cutting insert has a concavely curved upper surface, a lower surface, a plurality of side surfaces connecting the two, and a central hole passing through the upper and lower surfaces. Cutting edges are formed at intersections between the upper surface and the side surfaces, and corner cutting edge portions are formed at borders of two adjacent cutting edges. Cutting edge height is largest at corner cutting edge portions and smallest in the middle portions. In an inward direction of the insert from a cutting edge, the upper surface has a land portion, a downward inclined surface, a bottom surface, and a seating surface portion. A plurality of semispherical protrusions are formed on border portions between the downward inclined surface and the bottom surface, and at least one corner cutting edge portion has a corner bottom surface surrounded by an outwardly facing arcuate protrusion connecting two adjacent semispherical protrusions.
Abstract: An indexable hexahedral cutting insert has opposing top and bottom abutting faces, opposing rake faces connecting to opposing side faces, and a central hole passing through the abutting faces. Each rake face is wider in the top-to-bottom direction at a different one of the side faces. Arcuate corner portions with one-directional curvature are formed along intersecting portions between the abutting faces and the side faces. Each abutting face has first and second wedge-shaped inclined planes adjoining and inclining toward corresponding first and second rake faces. Each inclined plane has a base side at a cutting edge formed at the border with one of the rake faces, and a width which gradually increases from one corner portion to the opposite corner portion along the abutting face. Each corner portion has an associated inclined arcuate surface adjacent to the wide end of the wedge-shaped inclined planes.
