Patent number: 4416947Abstract: A magnetic recording medium is provided which has smooth and stable running performances and is free of "squeal" phenomenon, especially in an environment of high temperature and high humidity. A highly viscous silicone oil having a viscosity of 100,000 centistokes or more is incorporated in combination with a higher fatty acid ester composed of a higher fatty having a melting point of 44.degree. C. or more and a monohydric alcohol containing 3 to 8 carbon atoms into a magnetic coating layer of the magnetic recording medium. Such silicone oil is represented by the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R is CH.sub.3, R' is CH.sub.3, C.sub.6 H.sub.5 or F and n is a number which determines a viscosity thereof. Such higher fatty acid ester is selected from butyl myristate, butyl palmitate, propyl stearate, butyl stearate and the like.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1982Date of Patent: November 22, 1983Assignee: TDK Electronics Co. Ltd.Inventors: Kuniichi Yoda, Takehisa Ohkawa

Patent number: 4304807Abstract: A magnetic recording tape comprising a polyethylene terephthalate substrate and a magnetic material-containing layer closely adhered onto the substrate, which tape exhibits a reduced envelope variation. The polyethylene terephthalate substrate satisfies the formula:0.051H.sub.1 -0.59A+0.14 .DELTA.n+0.0015 (H.sub.2 -66.67).sup.2 +50.92.ltoreq.20wherein A is the average particle size of the polyethylene terephthalate crystals as determined from the half height width by X-ray diffractometry, and H.sub.1 is the average number of projections present in a unit area of 1 mm.sup.2 on the surface of the substrate, which projections have a height falling within the range of from 0.27 to 0.53 micron, H.sub.2 is the average number of projections similar to H.sub.1 above but having a height falling within the range of from 0.54 to 0.80 micron, rather than 0.27 to 0.53 micron, and .DELTA.n is the birefringence of the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1979Date of Patent: December 8, 1981Assignee: TDK Electronics Co. Ltd.Inventors: Yoshio Kawakami, Yoneo Matsuzawa

Patent number: 4289285Abstract: An improved magnetic tape cassette and separation sheet therefor. The separation sheet, positioned between an inner wall and the tape reels of a cassette, is formed with at least one dome-like protrusion. A plurality of such protrusions are preferably utilized spaced throughout the sheet, each of a diameter R and height H sized to provide an R/H ratio of between about 100 and 10. The separation sheet may be formed with a protrusion shaped to fit into a window in an inner case wall, the window-fitting protrusion extending from a side of said separation sheet opposite from that containing said dome-like protrusions.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1980Date of Patent: September 15, 1981Assignee: TDK Electronics Co. Ltd.Inventors: Toshihiko Ishida, Takateru Satou
