Abstract: Disclosed herein is a high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) apparatus, in which ferromagnetic metal wool is used to separate, for example, iron powders from water. Due to the high magnetic gradient around the metal wool, the separation of the iron powders takes place. Because of an improvement of the metal wool used in this HGMS apparatus, iron powders and the like can be collected at a high collecting efficiency, and the renewal operation of the metal wool can be performed in a short period of time. The improvement according to the invention resides in employing an amorphous metal alloy for the metal wool.

Each of the rack units comprises oblong top and bottom plates having holes in both end portions, a post for connecting the two plates together by fitting at both ends in the holes of the plates, and top and bottom fasteners for securing and fastening the post to the plates. The pivotal joint means comprises oblong top and bottom connecting plates having pivot holes formed in both end portions, stepped posts having their ends extending into the pivot holes of the two connecting plates to connect them pivotally to the top and bottom plates of the rack units, and top and bottom fasteners for securing and fastening the posts to the top and bottom plates of the rack units. The top fasteners have a recess each and the bottom fasteners a projection each adapted to mate with the recess.
Abstract: Disclosed is a magnetic head used for a vertical magnetizing system comprising a core having a pair of leg portions and an auxiliary magnetic pole which is arranged so as to face both leg portions. A closed magnetic path is formed by the core and the auxiliary magnetic pole. A sharp edge is formed at each end of the leg portions. A magnetic recording medium passes through the gap between the sharp edges and the auxiliary magnetic pole. When the magnetic recording medium passes through the gap, a high density magnetic recording operation is performed by the magnetic field produced by each sharp edge. Moreover, the recording operation can be effectively carried out due to the closed magnetic path and the recording magnetic field magnetized on the magnetic recording medium can be read out by using the same magnetic head as the magnetic head which is used for the recording operation.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a ferromagnetic metal powder characterized by continuously drying a slurry of ferromagnetic metal powder formed by wet reduction, in a non-oxidizing gas atmosphere, and subsequently continuously heat-treating the dried ferromagnetic metal powder in a non-oxidizing gas atmosphere. The continuous method prevents the ferromagnetic metal powder from being exposed to excess oxygen to enhance the magnetic properties of the ferromagnetic metal powder. Also, the production efficiency is enhanced.

Abstract: Disclosed is the addition of Nb, V, Ta or Zr to the ternary alloy of R (rare earth)-Co-Cu for permanent magnet materials, to thereby provide the permanent magnets with increased coercive force, residual magnetization and energy product. The additional elements enables employment of such Cu and Fe contents of the alloy as less than 10% and more than 6%, respectively. These percentages were avoided in the prior art to prevent the reduction of Br and Hc, respectively.
