Patent number: 8999081Abstract: Methods of producing composite products formed between at least two different metal structures in a side-by-side configuration are provided. The method includes providing at least two structures made of different materials that are not compatible for welding or conventional cladding processes. A geometric profile is provided in at least one of the edges of the first structure, and a corresponding mirror image of the geometric profile is provided in a corresponding edge of the second structure. The two structures are positioned together so that the profiled edge or edges form a complimentary composite structure and are then solid-phase bonded to form a composite product. The process may be repeated with additional structure at either end of the first or second structure to achieve multiple side-by-side products. The methods and corresponding products provided herein yield edge to edge products suitable for various electrical connection type applications.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2010Date of Patent: April 7, 2015Assignee: Technical Materials Inc.Inventors: Robert P. Willis, Kelley Sullivan Mello, Joseph G. Kaiser

Patent number: 5525836Abstract: A leadframe for use in mounting and interconnecting an integrated circuit. A first or base metal layer of the leadframe comprises at least one of brass or other copper alloy. A second, conducting layer atop the base layer comprises at least one of aluminum or an aluminum alloy. A third, upper layer on the second layer comprises at least one of copper or a copper alloy. The first, second and third layers are formed into a multilayer clad strip, a portion of at least the third layer being selectively removed to expose a selected pattern of the second layer.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1995Date of Patent: June 11, 1996Assignee: Technical Materials, Inc.Inventor: Joseph P. Mennucci

Patent number: 5437096Abstract: A fabrication method and leadframe construction in which the leadframe is formed by selectively removing portions of a multilayer clad strip to expose a selected pattern of a conductive metal to conform to the desired application of the leadframe. The clad strip may be formed of a base layer of copper alloy, a conducting layer of aluminum or aluminum alloy, and an upper layer of copper or a copper alloy. A layer of tin or lead-tin alloy may be plated onto the upper layer.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1994Date of Patent: August 1, 1995Assignee: Technical Materials, Inc.Inventor: Joseph P. Mennucci
