Abstract: A snow tyre with an improved grip on wet ground includes a tread formed of a rubber composition. The rubber composition includes: 20 to 100 phr of a first diene elastomer bearing at least one SiOR function, with R being hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical, and with phr referring to parts by weight per hunder parts of elastomer; 100 to 160 phr of a reinforcing inorganic filler; and a plasticizing system. The plasticizing system includes: a content A of between 10 and 60 phr of a hydrocarbon resin having a Tg above 20° C.; and a content B of between 10 and 60 phr of a liquid plasticizing agent. A total content A+B is greater than 50 phr. Optionally, the rubber composition also includes 0 to 80 phr of a second diene elastomer.

Abstract: A method for inspecting a tyre surface involves comparison with an image of a three-dimensional (“3D”) reference surface. Abstract: A tire is provided having a plurality of shoulder blocks separated by axial grooves and located along at least one side of the tire. Apertures extend through the shoulder blocks to connect with a circumferential groove. The apertures are located within a certain radial position relative to the axial grooves. Each aperture has a bottom positioned at a radial depth HB relative to the shoulder block and extends completely through the shoulder block along the axial direction. Each aperture has a radial overlap HL with the axial grooves. The ratio HL/Ho is about 0.15 or less and the ratio of HB/H is in the range of about 1.0 to about 1.1.
Abstract: A system and related method for improving tire uniformity includes providing at least one set of test tires constructed with one or more process elements provided at known relative angular locations. At least one uniformity parameter, such as radial or lateral run-out, balance, mass variation, radial lateral or tangential force variation, is measured for at least one harmonic of interest for each test tire. Respective rectangular coordinates are determined for each measured uniformity parameter and harmonic of interest for each tire. A form of the determined rectangular coordinates (e.g., the rectangular coordinates themselves and/or the log of the residuals squared) is analyzed for each tire to identify optimized relative angular locations for each process element that reduce dispersion (or dispersion and mean) of the measured uniformity parameter. New tires are built with the one or more process elements positioned in the identified optimized relative angular locations.

Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methodology for minimizing and compensating for cracking in piezoelectric devices so as to maintain long term functionality of the devices. Compensation for cracking is achieved by applying solid conductive electrodes over the entire surface of the piezoelectric device and extending the electrodes beyond the perimeter of the piezoelectric device. In this way electrical connections are maintained even in the presence of cracking. Cracking of the piezoelectric device is limited by minimizing the local bending moment of the piezoelectric device by way of applying insulative support materials that may vary in thickness.
Abstract: An electronic device with data stored therein is integrated into a tyre. The data is stored in a memory of the electronic device. The memory includes a data storage zone with a field reserved for a serial number of the tyre, which is stored in bit form. When the data stored in the field reserved for the serial number of the tyre is read, at least a part of the read data is decoded into at least one letter so as to determine the serial number of the tyre.

Abstract: Improved and more easily implemented methods for predicting uniformity parameters such as uneven mass distribution, radial run out and high speed radial force variation utilize other measurements such as the tire crown thickness variation. When high speed radial force variation is calculated, low speed radial force variation is also measured. Tire crown thickness variation can be measured in different fashions depending on the particular tire manufacturing process employed. By electronically determining resultant uniformity parameters, tires can be improved by rectification to address the uniformity levels. In addition, tire manufacturing can be improved by altering the resultant location of tire crown thickness variation relative to other aspects of the tire and/or tire manufacturing process.
