Publication number: 20100162442Abstract: Modern sugarcane cultivars are complex hybrids resulting from crosses among several species of the Saccharum genus. Traditional breeding methods have been extensively employed in different countries along the past decades to develop varieties with increased sucrose yield, and resistant to plagues and diseases. Conventional varietal improvement is, however, limited by the narrow pool of suitable markers. In this sense, molecular genetics is seen as a promising tool to assist in the process of molecular marker identification. The present invention concerns the identification of 348 genes associated with sucrose content in sugarcane plants. The genes were found to be differentially expressed when high sucrose and low sucrose plants and populations of plants were compared and/or when high and low sucrose internodes were compared. The expression data was obtained using cDNA microarray and quantitative PCR technologies.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2010Publication date: June 24, 2010Applicants: UNIVERSIDADE DE SÃO PAULO -- USP., UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DE COMPINAS -- UNICAMP., FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO -- FAPESP, CENTRO DE TECHNOLOGIA CANAVIEIRA, CENTRAL DE ÁLCOOL LUCÉLIA LTDA.Inventors: Gláucia Mendes SOUZA, Flávia Stal Papini-Terzi, Flávia Riso Rocha, Alessandro Jaquiel Waclawovsky, Ricardo Zorzetto Nicollielo Vencio, Josélia Oliveira Marques, Juliana de Maria Felix, Marcelo Menossi Teixeira, Marcos Buckeridge, Amanda Pereira de Souza, Eugênio César Ulian

Patent number: 6960299Abstract: This invention provides a method of reducing the concentration of at least one electrically charged compound present in aqueous feedstock (5), such as water and waste water. The feedstock to be treated is continuously supplied to one surface of a selectively permeable, electrically charged membrane (2) contained within a module (1). Simultaneously an aqueous reaction medium, containing an active microbial culture, contacts with the opposite face of the membrane (2). The microbial culture, fed with selected nutrients and salts, is capable to convert at least one electrically charged compound, after it permeates through the wall of the membrane (2) to by-products. The membrane is substantially impermeable to electrically uncharged compounds. The ion-exchange properties of the membrane allow avoiding secondary pollution of the treated water by metabolic by-products and residual nutrients from the reaction medium.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2000Date of Patent: November 1, 2005Assignee: Intstituto De Biologia Experimental E TechnologiaInventors: Joāo Goulāo Crespo, Marla d'Acensão Miranda Reis

Patent number: 6779978Abstract: The present invention describes an axial flow fan blade that presents innovation on its shape that results in a lower noise emission and in a higher efficiency. The axial flow fan blade, object of the present patent, has a lower vortex emission than the blades available on the previous art. This lower vortex emission is responsible for a lower level of pressure fluctuations, which results in a lower noise emission, and is also responsible for a lower energy expense on the vortex formation, which results in an efficiency increase. The present axial flow fan blade can be employed in various applications where it is necessary to move any gas.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2002Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignee: Tecsis Technologia E Sistemas Avancados LtdaInventor: Odilon Antônio Camargo Do Amarante

Patent number: 6510173Abstract: An information stream of binary symbols is divided into serial packets of N binary symbols. The method further includes serial-parallel conversion of binary symbols in each serial packet and repeating N times the parallel packet thus obtained in order to form a serial-parallel packet of binary symbols. The binary symbols are permuted in the duration interval of each serial-parallel packet, and orthogonal codes generated according to the above binary symbol permutation are then applied. A space-diversity channel is then assigned to each serial group of the serial-parallel packet of coded binary symbols thus obtained. All the serial groups of coded binary symbols, each coded binary symbol having been previously spread by a user spreading code, as well as pilot signals of the corresponding space diversity channels are simultaneously transmitted.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2001Date of Patent: January 21, 2003Assignee: Centro de Technologia Vidriera Monterrey, S.A.Inventors: Alexandr Vasillevich Garmonov, Yuri Evgenievich Karpitski
