Patent number: 9582003Abstract: Method for maintaining active control of an autonomous vehicle can involve confirming the active presence of a human in a semi-autonomous vehicle. The human's active physical control and monitoring of the semi-autonomous vehicle can be verified by detecting that a throttle pedal on the semi-autonomous vehicle is depressed relative to a non-actuated position. The vehicle can then continue semi-autonomously as long as the active physical control and monitoring by the human is confirmed. Once the throttle pedal is found to no longer be depressed, the vehicle can be returned to normal human control.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2016Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: Uber Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Anthony Levandowski, Don Burnette

Patent number: 9584763Abstract: A video conference endpoint includes one or more cameras to capture video of different views and a microphone array to sense audio. One or more preset views are defined. The endpoint detects faces in the captured video and active audio sources from the sensed audio. The endpoint detects any active talker detected faces that coincide positionally with detected active audio sources, and also detects whether any active talker is in one of the preset views. Based on whether an active talker is detected in any of the preset views, the endpoint switches between capturing video of one of the preset views, and capturing video of a dynamic view.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2014Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Kristian Tangeland, Rune Oistein Aas, Erik Hellerud

Patent number: 9584260Abstract: A method for transmitting a coherent optical data signal includes receiving a data signal from an interface, and encoding the data signal with a forward error correcting (FEC) encoder according to a mix of modulation formats. The FEC encoder generates an FEC encoded signal which is used to generate modulation symbols according to the modulation formats. The FEC encoded signal of modulation symbols is spectrally shaped to generate a shaped signal, and pre-distorted before transmission. The shaped signal is pre-distorted by adding a predetermined amount of chromatic dispersion to generate a smoothed signal, and the smoothed signal is transmitted according to the modulation formats.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2014Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Chris Fludger, Theodor Kupfer, Fabrizio Forghieri, Pierluigi Poggiolini, Gabriella Bosco, Andrea Carena, Vittorio Curri

Patent number: 9580683Abstract: Methods for de-differentiating or altering the life-span of desired “recipient” cells, e.g., human somatic cells, by the introduction of cytoplasm from a more primitive, less differentiated cell type, e.g., oocyte or blastomere are provided. These methods can be used to produce embryonic stem cells and to increase the efficiency of gene therapy by allowing for desired cells to be subjected to multiple genetic modifications without becoming senescent. Such cytoplasm may be fractionated and/or subjected to subtractive hybridization and the active materials (sufficient for de-differentiation) identified and produced by recombinant methods.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2014Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: Advanced Cell Technology, Inc.Inventor: Karen B. Patent number: 9581000Abstract: A pressure compensating system that minimizes the pressure differences across multiple shaft seals in a rod driven downhole pumping apparatus. The system balances the pressures across the seals by forcing the external pressure of all seals and compensators to be equal to the highest external pressure in the apparatus, made possible by the appropriate use of labyrinth-type seals. A bleed valve assembly which allows free flow of fluid into the pressure compensating system, but restricts the rate of fluid outflow from the system in case of shut-in of the pump, to limit the potential of rapid opening and closing of the mechanical shaft seals.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 2014Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: HARRIER TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventor: William Bruce Morrow

Patent number: 9579604Abstract: Close-coupled catalysts (CCC) for TWC applications are disclosed. The novel CCCs are implemented using light-weighted ceramic substrates in which a thin coating employing a low loading of Iron (Fe)-activated Rhodium (Rh) material composition, with Iron loadings and an OSM of Ceria-Zirconia, are deposited onto the substrates. Different CCC samples are produced to determine and/or verify improved light-off (LO) and NOX conversion of the CCCs. Other CCC samples produced are a CCC including a standard (non-activated) Rh thin coating and a heavily loaded CCC with a single coating of Pd/Rh material composition. The CCC samples are aged under dyno-aging using the multi-mode aging cycle and their performance tested using a car engine with ports on the exhaust to measure the emissions, according to the testing protocol in the Environmental Protection Agency Federal Test Procedure 75. During testing, the thin coatings of Fe-activated Rh exhibit improved light-off and NOx conversion efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2015Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: Clean Diesel Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Randal L.
