Abstract: A non-volatile storage system is disclosed that includes pairs of NAND strings (or other groupings of memory cells) in the same block being connected to and sharing a common bit line. To operate the system, two selection lines are used so that the NAND strings (or other groupings of memory cells) sharing a bit line can be selected at the block level. Both selection lines are connected to a selection gate for each of the NAND strings (or other groupings of memory cells) sharing the bit line. One set of embodiments avoid unwanted boosting during read operations by keeping the channels of the memory cells connected to word lines on the drain side of the selected word line biased at a fixed potential.

Abstract: A data storage device includes a memory and a controller. The controller is configured to receive a read request that indicates a logical address. The controller is further configured to perform a first read operation to retrieve a representation of an entry of a logical mapping table from the memory, and perform a second read operation to retrieve a representation of a codeword from the memory. The controller is further configured to decode the representation of the codeword to determine whether an error exists at the entry, and, prior to completion of decoding, to initiate a third read operation to retrieve first read data from a first physical address corresponding to the logical address as determined based on the representation of the entry.

Abstract: A wire cable capable of transmitting digital signals with a data rate of at least 5 Gigabits per second (Gb/s). The wire cable includes an insulated twisted pair of conductors and an inner conductive shield enclosing the conductors. The insulation of the twisted pair is bonded to provide consistent spacing between the conductors. A belting formed of a flexible dielectric is disposed between the shield and the bonded twisted pair. The belting provides consistent spacing between the twisted pair and the inner shield. The wire cable further includes a drain wire disposed outside the inner conductive shield and inside an outer conductive shield that encloses both the drain wire and the inner conductive shield. This combination of elements provides a wire cable having consistent impedance that is capable of transmitting digital signals with a data rate of at least 5 Gb/s via a single twisted pair of conductors.

Abstract: Techniques for sensing the threshold voltage of a memory cell during reading and verify operations by compensating for changes, including temperature-based changes, in the resistance of a bit line or other control line. A memory cell being sensed is in a block in a memory array and the block is in a group of blocks. A portion of the bit line extends between the group of blocks and a sense component and has a resistance which is based on the length/distance and the temperature. Various parameters can be varied with temperature and the group of blocks to provide the compensation, including bit line voltage, selected word line voltage, source line voltage, sense time and/or sense current or voltage.

Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the production of L-glucose from a mixture of L-mannose and L-glucose to provide a high purity L-glucose product. More particularly, the invention relates to a process for the isomerization of mixtures of L-mannose and L-glucose to favor the epimerization or transformation of the L-mannose into L-glucose combined with the selective removal of impurities and the selective separation of L-glucose by a multi-stage simulated moving bed SMB separation process integrating ion exclusion and isomer separation. The process is useful for providing a simplified and economic continuous processing route to providing pure L-glucose from mixtures of L-glucose and L-mannose in the presence of inorganic and organic salts and other sugars such as L-arabinose. L-glucose is useful as a sweetener, a laxative and as a therapeutic agent.

Abstract: A scroll pump has a metallic bellows that angularly synchronizes the stationary and orbiting scroll blades of the pump, and a hack-up system for the bellows. The back-up system consists of pins integral with and fixed relative to one of the stationary and orbital parts of the scroll pump, and a guide part that is integral with and fixed relative to the other of the stationary and orbital parts. The back-up system may be a non-contacting hack-up system in which there is no contact between the pins and guide part during normal operation of the pump. Therefore, no particles are created by a wearing away of such parts which would otherwise have the potential to contaminate the fluid being worked by the pump and reduce the useful life of the pump.

Abstract: A fair scheduling system with methodology for fairly scheduling queries for execution by a database management system is disclosed. The techniques involve obtaining computer-executable query jobs and cost estimates to execute the query jobs. For example, the cost estimate can be a number of results the query is expected to return. Based on the cost estimates, the fair scheduling system causes the database management system to execute the query jobs as separately executable sub-query tasks in a round-robin fashion which can decrease latency of low cost queries concurrently executing with high cost queries.
