  • Publication number: 20140252517
Abstract: A composite side shield structure is disclosed for providing biasing to a free layer in a sensor structure. The sensor is formed between a bottom shield and top shield each having a magnetization in a first direction that is parallel to an ABS. The side shield is stabilized by an antiferromagnetic (AFM) coupling scheme wherein a bottom (first) magnetic layer is AFM coupled to a second magnetic layer which in turn is AFM coupled to an uppermost (third) magnetic layer. First and third magnetic layers each have a magnetization aligned in the first direction and are coupled to bottom and top shields, respectively, for additional stabilization. The top shield may be modified to include an AFM scheme for providing additional stabilization and guidance to magnetic moments within AFM coupled magnetic layers in the top shield, and to the third magnetic layer in the side shield.

  • Publication number: 20140254495
Abstract: The computational complexity of MCS adaptation for linear and non-linear MU-MIMO can be reduced by avoiding QR decomposition during subsequent stages of MCS adaptation. For instance, QR decomposition can be avoided in later stages of MCS adaptation by computing an instant upper right triangular matrix (R1) directly from an earlier upper right triangular matrix (R) and an earlier unitary matrix (U), which were obtained during a previous stage of MCS adaptation. As such, the instant upper right triangular matrix (R1) is obtained without performing QR decomposition on an instant Hermitian matrix (H1H), thereby allowing MCS adaptation to be performed for the new user group with less complexity. Additionally, computational complexity of MCS adaptation for linear MU-MIMO can be further reduced by avoiding matrix inversion during subsequent stages of MCS adaptation.

  • Publication number: 20140252922
Abstract: An electric machine may employ a distributed bearing, for example spaced radially outwardly of a longitudinal center of a rotor and stator assembly. The distributed bearing may take the form of a wire race bearing, which positions a rotor assembly relative to a stator assembly to maintain an air gap therebetween. The rotor assembly may be concentrically located within the stator assembly. Electrically insulative fasteners may couple a race assembly to the stator or rotor assembly. Compensation fastener assemblies may couple the wire race assembly to the rotor or stator assembly, to compensate for differential expansion for instance thermal differential expansion along a longitudinal axis of the electric machine. The electric machines may be arranged in series, for example with drive shafts arranged along a common axis, and may be coupled to the same source of motion (e.g., propeller of wind turbine, without or with a gear box).

  • Publication number: 20140254269
Abstract: A non-volatile storage system is disclosed that includes pairs (or another number) of NAND strings (or other groupings of memory cells) in the same block being connected to and sharing a common bit line. By sharing bit lines, less bit lines are needed in the storage system. Using less bit lines reduces the space needed to implement the storage system. Each NAND string will have two drain side select gates. The non-volatile storage system will have two drain side selection lines each connected to one of the two drain side select gates so that the NAND strings sharing a bit line can be individually selected. To allow proper selection of a NAND string using the select gates, the select gates will be subjected to non-volatile programming in order to set the threshold voltage of the select gates to an appropriate level.

  • Publication number: 20140258803
Abstract: Forward Error Correction (FEC) techniques that generate independently decodable resource blocks are beneficial for Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) demodulation. One FEC technique for generating independently decodable resource blocks includes mapping locally decodable FEC codeblocks into unique resource blocks such that substantially all of the bits of the FEC codeblock are carried within a single resource block. The locally decodable FEC codeblocks can be generated from different FEC encoding modules or from a common FEC encoding module. Another technique for generating independently decodable resource blocks includes encoding a stream of information bits into low-density parity-check (LDPC) codeblocks having high ratios of inward peering parity bits. These high ratios of inward peering parity bits allow substantial portions of each LDPC codeblock to be decoded independently from information carried by other LDPC codeblocks.
