  • Patent number: 9489252
Abstract: Diverse erasure encoded fragments, that is, fragments produced by different erasure encoding schemes, may be used to reconstruct a data file. The diverse erasure encoded fragments for the data file are collected and the erasure encoding schemes used to generate the fragments are identified. A fragment matrix is generated from these fragments. An expanded encoding matrix is generated based upon the identified erasure encoding schemes. One or more rows may be removed from the expanded matrix to generate a square matrix. If the square matrix is invertible then it is inverted to provide a decoding matrix. One or more corresponding rows may be removed from the collected fragment matrix. The decoding matrix and the collected fragment matrix are multiplied to recover the data file. Padding symbols may be added to one or more fragments so that all fragments have the same number of symbols per fragment.

  • Patent number: 9491067
Abstract: Systems and techniques relating to identifying the presence of a network device are described. A described technique includes receiving, from the cache engine, a traffic flow and a series of notification signals, each indicating a presence of the cache engine, calculating a timeout value based on at least a time difference of two consecutive notification signals of the series of notification signals, updating, based on the calculated timeout value, a predetermined timeout period to an updated timeout period, and determining an absence of the cache engine when the updated timeout period that immediately succeeds the receiving of the series of notification signals elapsed without receiving an additional notification signal from the cache engine.

  • Patent number: 9489190
Abstract: Techniques are described for updating applications installed on devices. The applications may include native applications having a web view component to handle interpreted language instructions. The applications may also include web applications executable within a browser. A message may be sent to a computing device, the message including update information specifying one or more updates to the state or the features of an application. The update information may be described using interpreted language instructions. To handle the updates to an application in instances when the application is inactive, a stand-alone interpreter engine may be employed instead of the web view component or instead of the interpreter engine included in a browser. Use of the stand-alone interpreter engine may mitigate possible performance effects or intrusive user interface elements from launching the web view component or the browser-based interpreter engine to perform update operations.

  • Patent number: 9491390
Abstract: A method of implementing Correlated Multi-Sampling (CMS) in an image sensor with improved analog-to-digital converter (ADC) linearity starts with an ADC circuitry included in a readout circuitry that generates a plurality of uncorrelated random numbers used as a plurality of ADC pedestals for sampling image data. A Successive Approximation Register (SAR) included in the ADC circuitry stores a different one of the ADC pedestals before each sampling of the image data. The ADC circuitry samples an image data from a row a plurality of times against plurality of ADC pedestals to obtain a plurality of sampled input data. The ADC circuitry converts each of the plurality of sampled input data from analog to digital, which includes performing a binary search using the SAR. Other embodiments are also described.

  • Patent number: 9489738
Abstract: A monitoring system tracks the non-visible structure of a body in three dimensions. A tracker obtains image information of the object and instruments in its vicinity, all bearing 3D tracking markers. A controller spatially relates image information with previously obtained scan data of the object revealing non-visible structure of the object. For the scan a fiducial reference detectable in the scan is removably attached to a location on the object. The scan data and image information is used by the controller to provide the user with real time information on the relative 3D locations and orientations of instruments and non-visible structure of the body. In a further embodiment the monitoring system may be used to model and track changes in the body itself. In other embodiments, a model of the body and instruments is used to track contemplated actions and warn about possibly inappropriate instrument procedures.

  • Patent number: 9489254
Abstract: Erasure encoded fragments may be originally generated by applying an erasure encoding scheme to a data file. An erasure encoded fragment may be subsequently generated directly from previously generated erasure encoded fragments or by reconstructing the original data file and then erasure encoding the reconstructed data file. The integrity or fidelity of such a subsequently generated erasure encoded fragment may be verified by newly generating an error detection code, such as but not limited to a checksum, for the subsequently generated erasure encoded fragment, and comparing that subsequently generated error detection code against an error detection code previously generated for a previous or original version of the erasure encoded fragment. Each error detection code is preferably stored in association with its corresponding erasure encoded fragment and with one or more other erasure encoded fragments. Thus, each error detection code is saved in at least two locations.

  • Patent number: 9490098
Abstract: An electron source is made from mixed-metal carbide materials of high refractory nature. Producing field-enhanced thermionic emission, i.e., thermal-field or extended Schottky emission, from these materials entails the use of a certain low work function crystallographic direction, such as, for example, (100), (210), and (310). These materials do not naturally facet because of their refractory nature. The disclosed electron source made from transition metal carbide material is especially useful when installed in a scanning electron microscope (SEM) performing advanced imaging applications that require a high brightness, high beam current source.

  • Patent number: 9489510
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting the generation of authentication credentials for virtual machine instances are described. In various embodiments, an intermediary system may detect or determine, for a virtual machine instance, one or more states associated with a credential (e.g., a password) generation process and/or a get password request from a requesting user. Based on detected or determined virtual machine states, the intermediary system may provide useful and/or timely status indicators or notifications to the requesting user. In various embodiments multiple states may be determined sequentially or in parallel in order to provide more detailed information regarding whether and why a credential is or is not available, contributing to an improved user experience. For example, timely indication that a password may not be available may be useful to the requesting user who can take immediate steps to remedy the situation, such as by contacting customer service.

  • Patent number: 9491073
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring the performance associated with fulfilling resource requests and determining optimizations for improving such performance are provided. A processing device obtains and processes performance metric information associated with processing a request corresponding to two or more embedded resources. The processing device uses the processed performance metric information to determine an allocation of one or more domains to be associated with the two or more embedded resources. In some embodiments, in making such a determination, the processing device assesses performance metric information collected and associated with subsequent requests for the two or more embedded resources using each of a variety of alternative allocations of domains associated with the two or more embedded resources. The processing device may also consider a number of factors, including domain selection criteria obtained from an original content provider.

  • Patent number: 9491237
Abstract: A system and method for sharing content with a group of devices based on proximity. A sharing device transmits an SSID and an audio signal containing a key. The audio signal may be controlled to limit the area in which the audio signal may be received or heard by a receiving device. For example, the audio signal may be controlled to limit receipt to a device at a same table (a few feet away from the first device), in a same room, etc. This allows the sharer to selectively share content with one or more receiving devices without sharing with all devices in proximity to the first device.

  • Patent number: 9486783
Abstract: A diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) system for the treatment of exhaust gas emissions, including oxidation of nitrogen oxides (NO), unburned hydrocarbons (HC), and carbon monoxide (CO) is disclosed. Fresh and hydrothermally aged Zero-PGM (ZPGM) DOC samples are prepared and configured with an alumina-based washcoat on ceramic substrate, overcoat including doped Zirconia support oxide, and impregnation layer of Cu—Mn spinel of selected base metal loadings. Testing of fresh and hydrothermally aged ZPGM DOC system samples including Cu—Mn spinel is developed to evaluate the performance of Cu—Mn spinel active phase in oxidation CO, HC, and NO, as well as production of NO2. Key to improvement in light-off performance and NO oxidation is to have a diesel oxidation catalyst that is substantially PGM-free and available for a plurality of applications in lean burn engine operations.
