Patent number: 4646078Abstract: A graphics display unit providing rapid filling of predetermined areas of the display screen with one or more predefined repetitive patterns stored in the undisplayed portion of a frame buffer memory. The picture processor in executing a display list will encounter commands to load the predefined patterns(s) into the undisplayed portion of the frame buffer memory. The pattern is copied or replicated from there across the entire width of the frame buffer, with the final replication of the pattern being truncated. The display control unit fills the predetermined shapes or areas of the image to be displayed with the pattern(s) thusly loaded into the frame buffer memory, by copying sections of the scan lines of the replicated pattern up into the displayed section of the frame buffer specifically defining the shape to be filled-in. Pattern alignment between contiguous areas to be filled in with that pattern, is provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1984Date of Patent: February 24, 1987Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventors: David L. Patent number: 4644337Abstract: An oscilloscope displays a menu consisting of set of field codes and one configuration code set grouped with each field code. Each field code represents an oscilloscope operating parameter while each configuration code represents an alternative oscilloscope operating mode associated with the operating parameter. A configuration cursor is displayed underlining one configuration code in each field thereby indicating the current operating configuration of the oscilloscope. The configuration of the oscilloscope may be changed by first rotating a first control knob, mounted on the oscilloscope front panel, to locate a field selection cursor under a selected field code and then by rotating a second control knob to move the associated configuration cursor under the desired configuration code. The configuration of each field may be altered by selective operation of the two control knobs in this manner.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1984Date of Patent: February 17, 1987Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventors: Gordon W. Patent number: 4641048Abstract: A propagation delay time controller comprises a phase locked ring oscillator and a bias signal generator for controlling the propagation delay time of logic elements on an integrated circuit. The logic elements are of a type in which propagation delay time is a function of an applied bias signal. The ring oscillator, comprising representative logic elements on the controlled integrated circuit, oscillates with a frequency dependent on the propagation delay time of the oscillator logic elements. The bias signal generator compares the oscillator output voltage with a known, pulsed reference signal and generates a bias signal proportional to the integral of the phase difference between the oscillator and reference signal pulses. The bias signal is applied to all logic elements in the ring oscillator and to all other logic elements on the integrated circuit to be controlled.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1984Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventor: Ira G. Patent number: 4634949Abstract: A stepping motor generates first and second voltages each varying in accordance with a sinusoidal function having a period proportional to the period of rotation of the motor's rotor, the first and second voltages being in quadrature with each other. A control device generates from the first and second voltages a signal representative of a number that is proportional to the square root of the sum of the squares of the first and second voltages. Patent number: 4635051Abstract: A high-speed electro-optical light gate (40) includes a pair of matched variable optical retarders (54 and 56) positioned between a pair of light polarizing filters (42 and 44) to promote rapid switching between optical transmission states for light rays of the wavelength to which the variable optical retarders are tuned. The projections (62 and 66) of the optic axes of the variable optical retarders are orthogonally aligned so that the response time characteristics of the transitions between optical transmission states of the light gate reflect only the turn-on time response characteristic of the variable optical retarders. A field sequential color display system (78) incorporates a switchable color filter (80) which utilizes the alignment configuration of the variable optical retarders of the light gate to provide light output states of white light and light of three different colors to form an image in full color.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1983Date of Patent: January 6, 1987Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventor: Philip J. Method and apparatus for measurement of component video signal characteristics using an oscilloscope
Patent number: 4635094Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring characteristics of a component color video signal. In one embodiment the luminance component of a color video signal is applied to the vertical input of a cathode ray tube display device and a chrominance component is applied to the horizontal input. The resultant dots and transitions therebetween produced by the display trace provide an indication of component bandwidth, amplitude and relative time between components. All components can be compared simultaneously by alternately applying one chrominance component with the luminance component, and the other chrominance component with an inverted luminance component. In another embodiment one chrominance component is applied to the vertical input and the other is applied to the horizontal input. Delay circuits are provided for use with a time-division multiplexed video signal to compare time multiplexed components simultaneously. A graticule is provided for relating the display trace to a standard display.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1984Date of Patent: January 6, 1987Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventor: Tran Thong -
Patent number: 4635098Abstract: A method and system for reconstruction of chroma component segments in a line sequential chroma format television system. Filtering of a received line sequential chroma signal is employed to reconstruct missing chroma components and to attenuate phantom frequency components greater than one half the spatial sampling rate. Digital and analog filters are disclosed for implementation of such post filtering. The luminance component of the line sequential signal is delayed at the transmitter to synchronize the reconstructed chroma segment with its corresponding luminance segment with the use of minimal hardware at the receiver. Horizontal offset chroma sampling is used along with such post filtering to decrease transmission bandwidth requirements without sacrificing horizontal resolution at the receiver.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1984Date of Patent: January 6, 1987Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventor: Tran Thong

Patent number: 4629911Abstract: A comparator includes a source degenerated latching differential amplifier and an input differential amplifier interconnected in stacked fashion and connected with the input amplifier having inverting and non-inverting outputs coupled respectively for positive feedback to the inverting and non-inverting inputs of the latching amplifier. Means are provided to limit the relative difference between the signals at the inverting and non-inverting inputs to the latching amplifier so that when the latching amplifier is activated a minimum current will always be present in both sides of the samplifier. Means are provided to selectively apply or not apply a common bias current to the latching amplifier such that on application thereof, the positive feedback from the input amplifier outputs causes the latching amplifier to drive the highest input amplifier output to a high voltage level limit and to drive the lowest input amplifier output to a low voltage level limit.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1985Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventors: Linda K.
