  • Patent number: 4147988
Abstract: An electron beam scan conversion method and apparatus based on the gain recovery or "dead" time characteristic of channel electron multipliers. The waveform of an electrical signal is written on the input face of a channel multiplier plate with an electron beam. Then, within the dead time of the written channels (typically about 1-100 msec.), the plate's input face is scanned in a predetermined raster pattern with a constant current beam. During the scanning step, an output signal is derived that corresponds to the difference in emission in response to the scanning beam between the channels in the written area of the plate and those outside that area.

  • Patent number: 4148042
Abstract: Electrographic paper is fed over a segmented platen where its dielectric surface receives image defining electrostatic charges deposited by styli bearing directly and successively upon it. The styli are integral to an endless belt moving laterally to the surface. Voltage pulses corresponding to the input information are applied to the segmented platen to produce the electrostatic charges. The latent image charged surface is progressively fed to an image toning and fixing cycle to produce a hard copy.

  • Patent number: 4146844
Abstract: A high-precision amplifier employs a feed-forward technique to provide a first order correction of amplifier distortion. A second amplifier is utilized to sense the base-to-emitter distortion of a main amplifier and develop an error output which is injected into an output node to provide cancellation of distortion from the output of the main amplifier. The feed-forward distortion-correction technique is particularly applicable to high-precision wideband differential amplifiers; however, the technique may be used in other amplifiers as well.

  • Patent number: 4142128
Abstract: A cathode ray tube is provided with a rectangular box-shaped lens intermediate the tube's screen and beam deflection plates for amplifying beam deflections in both the horizontal and vertical axes. In one form, useful in either monoaccelerator or PDA tubes, the lens includes four tubular elements disposed end-to-end and spaced apart a sufficient distance to isolate them electrically. The adjacent ends of each pair of the elements are oppositely curved to provide electron lenses having vertical cylindrical mid-surfaces. The radii of the cylindrical surfaces and the voltages applied to each element are adjusted to provide a lens system that produces minimum distortion and optimum linearity in the resultant display.

  • Patent number: 4138605
Abstract: A row of thick-film resistors connected by thick-film conductors on a ceramic substrate are suitably powered to form a thermal printing head. Thermally-sensitive paper is placed in intimate contact with the resistors, some of which are heated to a temperature sufficient to cause a color change in the paper to thereby produce a corresponding array of dots. The paper is moved across the printing head in incremental steps, forming other arrays of dots. The dots combine to form alphanumeric characters.

  • Patent number: 4137479
Abstract: A cathode ray tube includes first and second electrostatic quadrupole lens between the electron gun and the vertical deflection plates to properly focus the electron beam before it enters the vertical deflection plates. A third electrostatic quadrupole lens is located between the vertical deflection plates and the horizontal deflection plates to enhance the angle of deflection as well as to properly focus the electron beam as it moves from the vertical deflection plates into the horizontal deflection plates. A meshless scan expansion lens follows the horizontal deflection plates and is formed of aligned tubular members having interdigitated sections thereby forming a fourth quadrupole lens which accelerates the electron beam and expands it prior to being impinged onto the fluorescent screen.

  • Patent number: 4135160
Abstract: A pulse width normalizer circuit incorporates a delay line to ensure a predetermined minimum pulse width output when input pulses become narrower than the predetermined minimum width. One output and one input of a differential amplifier are coupled to a delay line having a predetermined length and a shorted opposite end. An input pulse is applied to the other input of the differential amplifier, causing the outputs to switch to thereby produce an output pulse. The differential amplifier remains latched for the time it takes the leading edge of the output pulse to propagate down the delay line and back.

  • Patent number: 4132958
Abstract: A feedbeside correction circuit for correcting errors in the frequency response of a wideband amplifier includes a network which models the physical distortion-producing mechanisms of the amplifier semiconductor pn junctions. An input signal is applied simultaneously to the amplifier and to the feedbeside circuit. The feedbeside circuit produces a correction signal which is applied to a summing node and subtracted from the amplifier signal so that the amplifier output is substantially error free. The circuit may be used both for single-ended and differential inputs.

  • Patent number: 4122528
Abstract: A Constant Velocity Vector Generator is disclosed for connecting X, Y coordinate points of a rectangular coordinate display system. A pair of absolute value amplifier circuits, a square-root-of-the-sum-of-the-squares circuit, a pair of dividers, and a pair of integrators are employed to convert simultaneous .DELTA.X and .DELTA.Y step voltages to ramp voltage pairs which are applied to appropriate X and Y deflection circuits of a graphic display device to produce straight-line traces whose velocities are constant for all vectors regardless of magnitude (line length) or direction (angle). Each vector may be drawn to any length or direction, immediately after which new data may be applied to the vector generator to initiate a new vector whose origin is the end point of the preceding vector. Such a system is particularly applicable to computer-drawn displays. The vector generating circuits are suitable for realization in a monolithic integrated circuit.
