Abstract: An improved method for manufacturing a charge image storage dielectric capable of bistable storage is described. The storage dielectric is made by coating phosphor particles with a secondary emissive-forming substance, and then heating the coated particles to form secondary emissive material and simultaneously bond it to the surface of the phosphor particles.

Abstract: A precision ramp voltage generator is provided which exhibits exceptionally small start-up aberrations and simultaneously maintains baseline stability. The perturbations in the output are corrected by an increase or decrease in an error current developed via feedback means to charge or discharge a timing capacitor in the direction necessary to maintain the desired baseline, whereas start-up aberrations are minimized by effecting a very fast current switch to a timing element from a current source to a current sink of greater magnitude.
Abstract: An electronic circuit is disclosed which passes current to an output node when the rate of change of voltage on an input node exceeds a predetermined value. A differentiating network is serially disposed between a voltage-driven source and a normally cut off common base amplifier to monitor the rate of change of the voltage signal. The common base amplifier is prebiased to conduct when the output of the differentiator exceeds the threshold value. The circuit may include temperature compensation means and adjustable prebiasing means. When a pair of such circuits are utilized in a differential or push-pull mode, the displacement current in the pair of capacitors has a serial conduction path for rates of change of input voltage below the threshold value, and a parallel conduction path above the threshold value.
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for providing accurate time interval measurements in an oscilloscope. A first voltage which is proportional to the time position of a first selected point along a linear time-base sweep is stored and applied to a subtractor circuit. A second voltage proportional to the time position of a second selected point along the sweep is applied to the subtractor, and the difference between the first and second voltages is obtained. This difference, which is proportional to the time interval between the first and second selected points, is applied to a digital voltmeter calibrated to provide a display in time units.

Abstract: An input amplifier stage is isolated from the main body of an amplifier and instrument ground by a single transformer which provides both an energy path to the input stage and an amplifier signal path from the input stage using a modulated load technique. The secondary of the transformer, which is connected across the input amplifier, includes a rectifier and filtering components to provide a floating D. C. voltage supply.

Abstract: A high efficiency switching drive for a resonate power transformer having the ability to maintain a constant output voltage over a wide range of source voltage variation while maintaining good power conversion efficiency is provided. A transistorized class-C oscillator has means to saturate the transistors during conduction time to allow the transistor voltage to remain small as opposed to a current source as in the conventional class-C oscillator.
Abstract: A continuously variable high frequency resistance attenuator is described in which the attenuation is first order independent of frequency. The wave translating media into and out of the attenuator provide a constant characteristic impedance. The attenuator consists of a length of series resistance and a plurality of parallel shunt resistors, which are of adjustable value and extend between the length of series resistance and ground or extend between the length of series resistance and open circuit.

Abstract: A dual-beam cathode-ray tube having a pair of electron guns and associated deflection means disposed side-by-side on each side of a central axis is described in which the electron guns are parallel and the deflection means includes beam centering plates and angled horizontal deflection plates to direct the electron beams toward the central axis, precluding the need for a large-diameter tube neck in which the entire gun structures are angled. Bowing control plates are disposed adjacent the beam centering plates to minimize trace bowing, and an intergun shield is disposed between the horizontal deflection plates to control and correct display pattern geometry distortion.
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to charge image storage tubes having a direct viewing storage target including a storage dielectric of phosphor material capable of bistable storage of a charge image and which emits a light image corresponding to such charge image, and in particular to an improved storage dielectric of phosphor particles coated with smaller particles of a high secondary electron emissive material bonded to such phosphor particles and to a method of manufacture thereof. A small amount of secondary emissive material is employed efficiently to increase the writing speed and useful lifetime of the storage dielectric without greatly decreasing the brightness of the light image emitted by the phosphor. In one embodiment using 3.5 per cent of magnesium oxide secondary emissive material with 96.5 per cent of manganese activated zinc orthosilicate phosphor material, a writing speed of 400,000 centimeters per second and a light image brightness of 3.5 foot-lamberts was obtained.
Abstract: An electronically programmable function generator with two dimensional programmability is provided which has an output, a current, which is a piecewise linear function ("transfer curve") of its input, a voltage. The transfer curve consists of contiguous straight line segments and the breakpoints between the line segments are electronically non-interactive and independently programmable. The generator in its preferred embodiment linearizes the response of a non-linear amplifier or can be utilized wherever an empirical non-linear function is needed in an analog system.
Abstract: A cathode ray storage tube provided with a storage target having a multiplicity of segments of the collector electrode extending through the dielectric layer of the storage target. These segments comprise glass beads secured together and to a surface of an insulating support plate, a conductive collector electrode coating is applied onto the support plate surface and glass bead segments and then the storage dielectric layer is applied thereover which has proper thickness so that the segments extend above the dielectric thereby providing collector areas for collecting secondary emitted electrons from the dielectric.
Abstract: A multiple-line display signal generating apparatus is disclosed in which each of a plurality of lines is generated in a normally fixed raster format, wherein any one of the plurality of lines may be selected and positioned wiith respect to the other lines. Programmed current generators provide a fixed displacement current for each line, and a variable displacement current may be selected to replace any of the fixed values.
Abstract: In a charge storage device, such as a high resolution scan converter tube, flood guns are incorporated to scan the target with substantially unfocused high current electron beams to provide the erasure thereof.
Abstract: A system for automatically maintaining the center frequency of a swept voltage controlled oscillator. At a known amplitude of sweep voltage input, a lock pulse is actuated. The oscillator output is divided by a number N and applied simultaneously with the reference signal to a phase and/or frequency detector. The detected signal is applied via a gate under the control of such lock pulse to a memorization unit whose output is used to maintain the center frequency.
Abstract: A cathode ray storage tube provided with a storage target having a multiplicity of segments of the collector electrode extending through the dielectric layer of the storage target. These segments comprise dots or continuous or broken protrusions of conductive particles that have been photo-deposited into position onto the collector electrode and then the storage dielectric layer is applied thereover which has proper thickness so that the segments extend above the dielectric thereby providing collector areas for collecting secondary emitted electrons from the dielectric.
Abstract: A continuously variable resistance attenuator is described in which the signal conductor of a distortionless lossy transmission line is employed as an attenuation resistance uniformly distributed along such line, and the connection of an output contact is moved along such signal conductor to change the attenuator setting. The transmission line has a plurality of separate shunt resistors of equal value extending between the signal conductor and the ground conductor of the line and uniformly distributed along the line to provide a lossy line of uniform characteristic impedance. The input end of such lossy line is connected to a non-lossy line of the same characteristic impedance, and its other end is terminated in a termination resistor equal to such characteristic impedance.
