  • Patent number: 8514979
Abstract: A superheterodyne receiver includes an A/D converter for converting an IF signal to a stream of samples at a sampling frequency that is four times the IF and a splitter that splits the stream of samples into a first set of even samples and a second set of odd samples. A first quadrature demodulator demodulates just the first set of even samples to produce one of real (I) and imaginary (Q) components of a complex signal at one half of the sampling frequency, and a second, parallel quadrature demodulator demodulates just the second set of odd samples to produce the other of the I and Q components. The demodulated first set is filtered using a first subset of filter coefficients, and the demodulated second set is filtered using a second subset of filter coefficients. The filter outputs correspond to a baseband complex signal. The technology disclosed reduces overall hardware complexity and operating frequency by a factor of two or more.

  • Patent number: 8516133
Abstract: Methods and systems taught herein allow communication device manufacturers to preconfigure communication devices to use preliminary access credentials to gain temporary network access for downloading subscription credentials, and particularly allow the network operator issuing the subscription credentials to verify that individual devices requesting credentials are trusted. In one or more embodiments, a credentialing server is owned or controlled by the network operator, and is used by the network operator to verify that subscription credentials are issued only to trusted communication devices, even though such devices may be referred to the credentialing server by an external registration server and may be provisioned by an external provisioning server. Particularly, the credentialing server interrogates requesting devices for their device certificates and submits these device certificates to an external authorization server, e.g., an independent OCSP server, for verification.

  • Patent number: 8515191
Abstract: A solution according to one or more embodiments of the present invention is to reconstruct image blocks where only the frequency coefficient that is most sensitive to changes of an average value of the residual image block, typically the lowest frequency coefficient, is present with a flat residual image. The other image blocks are reconstructed by applying an inverse spatial 2D transform. Hence, the other image blocks comprise image blocks with multiple coefficients and image blocks with a single coefficient and wherein the single coefficient is not the coefficient determining that is most sensitive to changes of an average value of the residual image block.

  • Patent number: 8516325
Abstract: A communication method in a receiving node in a wireless communication system includes receiving, at a receiving node, a first coded message block that includes a plurality of parts distributed over a plurality of components. The method further includes detecting a decoding error associated with decoding the received first coded message block and, in response to detecting the decoding error, identifying a part of the first coded message block for which retransmission will be requested and a suggested retransmission setting. The suggested retransmission setting includes one or more of a component selection setting, a link adaptation setting, a power control setting, and a scheduling setting. The method also includes feeding back to the sending node feedback information indicating that the first coded message block could not be correctly decoded. The feedback information indicates the identified part of the first coded message block and the suggested retransmission settings.

  • Publication number: 20130208668
Abstract: A new set of random-access preamble signatures are introduced to differentiate new-release UEs from UEs compliant only with earlier releases. Additional new features of a random-access procedure are also disclosed, including an ability to deploy multiple transmission-time-intervals TTIs) in a given area. An example mobile terminal, according to some embodiments of the present invention, selects a TTI from two or more possible TTIs. The mobile terminal then selects a preamble signature from a group of one or more preamble signatures associated with enhanced-uplink resources and associated with the selected TTI, and transmits a random-access channel (RACH) preamble, using the selected preamble signature. In some embodiments, the mobile terminal selects between a 2-millisecond TTI and a 10-millisecond TTI.

  • Publication number: 20130208665
Abstract: A new uplink control channel capability is introduced to enable a mobile terminal (1500, 1600) to simultaneously report multiple packet receipt status bits and channel-condition bits. In an example embodiment, an encoding circuit (1100) encodes the hybrid-ARQ ACK/NACK bits using a first encoder (1110) and separately encodes the channel-state information bits using a second encoder (1120). The encoded hybrid-ARQ ACK/NACK bits and the encoded channel-state information bits are interleaved, and the interleaved, encoded bits are transmitted in physical control channel resources of a first uplink subframe, on a single carrier. In some embodiments, the interleaved, encoded bits are transmitted in two slots of the first uplink subframe, the two slots having different subcarrier frequencies. In these embodiments, each slot carries a plurality of the encoded hybrid-ARQ ACK/NACK bits and a plurality of the encoded channel-state information bits.

  • Publication number: 20130207823
Abstract: A method and device for digital filtering of a digital signal in a radio frequency (RF) device front end are disclosed. In one embodiment, 2M+1 groups of N digital-to-analog converters (DAC) are grouped to emulate a (2M+1)*N tap finite impulse response (FIR) filter. Each DAC in a group receives a clock that differs in phase from the clocks of the other DACs in the group. The filter is implemented to suppress image spectra of the digital signal without increasing a clock rate by which the signal is sampled.

  • Publication number: 20130208776
Abstract: The invention proposes a way of inserting an analog test signal during normal reception into analog blocks of an OFDM receiver in such a way that the reception is either not corrupted at all, or only very little. This is achieved either by inserting the analog test signal in time or frequency where it does not corrupt the received signal, or by accounting for the interfering analog test signal in the decoding process.

Abstract: A NodeB (105) for an HSPA enabled WCDMA network (100), arranged (11, 12, 13) to transmit beam forming instructions to a User Equipment, a UE (1 10), which is arranged for beam forming. The beam forming instructions comprise information identifying a code book with one or more code words, and the NodeB is also arranged to transmit code words from said code book to the UE at a certain rate. The NodeB is further arranged to determine said rate based on dynamically varying information available in the WCDMA network, and to receive said information on the code book from an RNC upon configuration of the U E or to choose code book based on said dynamically varying information available in the WCDMA network.

  • Patent number: 8509407
Abstract: A system and method for event notification and access control for Distributed Hash Tables (DHTs) using an event triggering mechanism for DHT-based Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlay networks is described. According to an embodiment of the invention, a user interested in certain event can insert a trigger into the DHT. When the event occurs, the trigger fires and causes a pre-defined action to be executed. According to another embodiment of the invention, a user peer inserts a trigger resource record, which includes instructions to execute a specified action upon occurrence of the event, into the DHT. A monitored resource record, with which the event is or will be associated, is identified. A monitoring peer, responsible for maintaining the monitored resource record, is then identified. The trigger resource record is maintained at the monitoring peer.

  • Patent number: 8509122
Abstract: The invention discloses a method (800) for use in a cellular wireless system (100) with a base station (120), a cell (110) in the system and a first user terminal (130) which can be scheduled for receiving traffic from the base station during a down link period, and for transmitting traffic to the base station during an up link period. There is a first guard period (TUD) between the up link period and the down link period, and a second guard period (TDU) between the down link period and the up link period. The method (800) comprises measuring the interference level in the cell for part of the time between two consecutive down link periods, and varying at least one of the following in accordance with the measured interference level: the duration of the first or second guard period, the duration of the up link period, or the traffic sent in the up link period.

  • Patent number: 8509778
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for configuring the HeNB (Home eNode B) to retrieve location information indicative of its location and sending this location information via a core network node to a UE (User Equipment) authorized to access the HeNB. The UE can then based on this received location information and on a determination of the location of the UE determine whether the UE is being positioned in the coverage of the HeNB. This implies that the authorized UEs of the HeNB know when they should try to find and access the HeNB and the UEs may then avoid accessing the HeNB when it is out of the HeNB coverage which will save UE battery and reduce interference.
