Patent number: 8493860Abstract: Congestion is detected in a radio access transport network including one or more radio network controllers each coupled to one or more radio base stations. Multiple data packet flows are each associated with a mobile radio terminal communication, and each flow is controlled in the radio access transport network by a corresponding flow control entity. They are monitored for congestion in the transport network. If a congestion area in the transport network is detected for one of the monitored data packet flows, then a determination is made whether other monitored data packet flows share the detected congestion area. Congestion notification information is communicated to the flow control entities corresponding to the other monitored data packet flows that share the detected congestion area. Based on the congestion notification information, the informed flow control entities may take a flow control action, e.g., to enable fair sharing of communications resources in the transport network.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2010Date of Patent: July 23, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Sándor Rácz, Szilveszter Nádas

Patent number: 8488464Abstract: A radio base station (RBS) is described herein that detects when a high-speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) data frame (110) is lost after it was transmitted by a radio network controller (RNC) over a transport link (Iub) towards the RBS (104). To accomplish this, the RBS (104) upon receiving a HS-DSCH data frame (110) inspects a frame sequence number (302) located within the received HS-DSCH data frame (110) to determine if the frame sequence number (302) is in sequence with a frame sequence number (302) located within a previously received HS-DSCH data frame (110). If the two frame sequence numbers (302) are not in sequence, then one or more HS-DSCH data frames (110) that were previously transmitted towards the radio base station (104) have been lost.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2004Date of Patent: July 16, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Peter Lundh, Szilveszter Nadas

Patent number: 8488551Abstract: A method for sending buffer status information includes checking if a quality of service (QoS) parameter is defined for a first logical channel and at least one condition of the set of predetermined conditions associated with a logical channel group is fulfilled. If the QoS parameter is defined and at least one condition of the set is fulfilled, the method includes setting a number of bits in a media access control header according to a first semantic. The bits carry buffer status information, and the first semantic—is based on the QoS parameter of the first logical channel. Otherwise, the method includes setting the number of bits carrying the buffer status information according to a second semantic that is based on an amount of data available for transmission across the logical channel group.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2008Date of Patent: July 16, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Ghyslain Pelletier, Magnus Lindström, Janne Peisa, Henrik Enbuske, Eva Englund, Michael Meyer, Henning Wiemann, Christian Skärby

Patent number: 8489951Abstract: A method and apparatus according to the present invention addresses and/or prevents lost protocol synchronization in HARQ systems caused by ACK/NACK errors. One embodiment detects lost synchronization errors for NDI-based retransmission protocols and restores synchronization by sending an explicit RESET message. In response to the RESET message, the transmitter aborts the transmission of a current PDU and transmits a new PDU and corresponding NDI. Another embodiment prevents protocol synchronization errors by sending scheduling grants on a packet by packet basis. The receiver sends a subsequent explicit scheduling grant to the transmitter based on an error evaluation of a received PDU. The transmitter will not send the next PDU unless it receives the subsequent explicit scheduling grant.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2007Date of Patent: July 16, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Janne Peisa, Michael Meyer, Johan Torsner, Stefan Parkvall, Mats Sägfors, Magnus Lindström
