  • Patent number: 6265236
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a light emitting diode with the following process steps. Preparation of a substrate; production on the substrate of a series of layers which include the pn junction, that generates the radiation; production of contact layers on the surface of the layers including the pn junction and generating the radiation, and on the rear side of the substrate; and tempering of the contact layers. The method is characterized by the surface of the layers including the pn junction and generating the radiation being frosted or roughened before the contact layers are deposited. Through frosting the front side, it is possible to increase the luminous efficiency of the diodes by about 25%. Since the frost-etching process is performed before the contact layers are produced, this method can be used when aluminum is to be used as the contact material.

  • Patent number: 6249558
Abstract: Before digital data impulses are transmitted from a transmitter to a receiver that includes a data acquisition signal generator, at least one synchronizing impulse (syn1, . . . ) is transmitted for synchronizing the transmitter with the receiver with regard to a sync frequency that is repeatedly updated to provide a current accepted sync frequency. The at least one synchronizing impulse and the data impulses are Manchester encoded which combines timing (synchronizing) and data signals. An impulse flank change occurring centrally in an impulse width is used as a synchronization point of time. Stepping pulses occurring between two consecutive synchronization points of time are counted and the resulting count is used to determine the sync frequency in response to the occurrence of a synchronizing impulse and at a synchronization point of time. A time shift or delay occurs between data impulses and synchronization points of time.

  • Patent number: 6230546
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for detecting knocking combustion in an internal combustion engine, by evaluating the ionic current signal sensed in the combustion chamber, is especially adapted to correct or compensate the ionic current signal for longterm variations arising therein, for example due to variations in the composition of the fuel as a result of contamination with metallic components or the like. Thereby, erroneous knock recognition is prevented. To achieve this, a frequency-filtered time-sampled knocking component integral of the ionic current signal generated in the present combustion cycle is multiplied by a correction value determined from at least one integral value of the ionic current signal generated during at least one prior combustion cycle.

  • Patent number: 6222362
Abstract: A method is presented for detecting the position and the direction of motion of a movably mounted part on an electric motor that makes provision not only for a single-channel sensor but also a measuring arrangement for the motor current and the rectified motor current by means of which the motor current is activated after operating switching devices to reverse the polarity of the voltage applied to the motor to cause a reversal of the direction of motion. The measuring arrangement establishes from the variation of the motor current over time the point of time of the motor current maximum and transmits this to the evaluation logic. The point of time of the actual reversal of the direction of motion is derived from the point of time of the motor current. Preferably, the current is measured as a reference current value even before falling through the zero crossing.

  • Patent number: 6180875
Abstract: The invention relates to a housing for an electric or an electronic component, in particular a motor vehicle control unit, for which the housing parts or housing connections are designed such that the electric or electronic components are sealed watertight and airtight. Such housings, which are composed if only in part of a thermoplastic synthetic material, are provided with a pressure compensation feature. As a result, the pressure inside the housing is constantly adapted to the outside pressure. With this type of pressure adaptation, it is not possible for gases, particularly water vapor, to permeate the synthetic housing under pressure and reach the electric or electronic components. As a result, damage caused by humidity is greatly reduced and the service life is increased.
