  • Patent number: 6466583
Abstract: Many systems deployed by telecommunications operators will, in the future, include both Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Common Management Information Protocol (CMIP) management mechanisms. The disclosed system solution is a mechanism which enables CMIP to be implemented directly on top of SNMP. By using this mechanism, security and administrative mechanisms that are included in SNMP version 2, or SNMP version 1.5, can be reused for CMIP. This enables telecommunications operators to actively fight the network complexity inflation that is currently placing a heavy burden on telecommunications networks.

  • Patent number: 6397933
Abstract: A cooling system for cooling electronic/computer equipment in an equipment room in a station. A fan device causes heat exchanging air circulation between a battery and the equipment, where the air is guided by an air guiding device. The air guiding device is in a first chamber with an inlet which communicates with a battery and a second chamber with an outlet which communicates with the equipment. The first and second chambers are separated by a low impulse device preferably in the form of a perforated partition wall equipped with filter cloth. Turbulent flow which leaves the fan changes the laminar flow when the flow is towards the equipment so that warm surrounding air is not mixed in the air flow.

  • Patent number: 6389396
Abstract: A device for prosody generation at visual synthesis. A number of half-syllables are stored together with registered movement patterns in a face. When synthesizing speech, a number of half-syllables are put together into words and sentences. The words and sentences are given a stress and pattern of intonation corresponding to the intended language. In the face, a number of points and their movement patterns are further registered. In connection with the generation of words and sentences, the movement patterns of the different points are amplified depending on a given stress and sentence intonation. The given movement patterns are after that applied to a model, which is applied to a real face at which a life-like animation is obtained, at for instance a translation of a person's speech in a first language to a second language.

  • Patent number: 6385580
Abstract: A method of speech synthesis for reproduction of facial movements of a person with synchronized speech synthesis. The speech is put together of polyphones that are taken from a database. A databank is established containing polyphones with the polyphones belonging to facial movement patterns of the face of a first person. Polyphones from a second person are also registered and stored in the database. The duration of sound segments in corresponding polyphones in the databank and the database are compared and the facial movements in the databank are modified in accordance with the deviation. The modified facial movements are stored in the databank and related to the polyphone in question. These registered polyphones are then utilized to put together words and sentences at the same time as corresponding facial movements build up a face model from the modified facial movements in the databank.

  • Patent number: 6208387
Abstract: A device and method for generation of digital advertisement displays in real time in digital TV-transmissions. In such digital TV-transmissions, a digital coding of the image material is made before the transmission is made; this coding compresses the content of the image as much as possible to minimize necessary bandwidth utilization at transmission of the signals. In connection with this coding and by means of pattern recognition, different patterns are identified for predefined objects in the image material, such as for example identifying an object with an unique coloring. Via the pattern identification, the image coder obtains information via a table of what the original object looks like. Also included in the table is information about which advertisement display is to be placed inside the identified object.

  • Patent number: 6188873
Abstract: A broadband radio access method device and system includes a first wireless communication segment that operates under 10 GHz, and a second wireless communication segment that operates over 20 GHz. Coordination between the first segment and second segment occurs when establishing links with a subscriber, such that the broader band services available from the second communication link, are assigned to the subscriber, when the communications channel is available to support line-of-sight communications with the subscriber. When the communications channel does not support the second communication segment, the subscriber is assigned to operate with the first communication segment. An integrated first and second segment terminal is provided to provide a transmodulation device for converting signaling protocols between the two different segments so as to support communications between the subscriber and the intended recipient even if the two use apparently incompatible signaling protocols.

  • Patent number: 6181714
Abstract: A multi-carrier transmission system using DMT. It is known to recover a receiver sample and clock from a reserved carrier, a pilot carrier having a fixed phase. A sampling clock oscillator in a receiver is then phase locked to the pilot carrier. Multi-carrier receivers, such as DMT receivers, are normally equipped with an FFT processor. A complex number representing the pilot carrier is then available from the FFT processor output. If an FFT processor is not available, a one frequency DFT processor can be provided to produce a complex estimate of the pilot carrier. In a DMT system, frame synchronization is handled separately from sampling clock synchronization, although the two processes are intimately related and frame synchronization must be acquired before sampling clock synchronization.

  • Patent number: 6112178
Abstract: A method for synthesizing speech using concatenation and Hanning-windows, in which a synthetic waveform is formed by concatenation of suitably selected parts of recorded human speech, the selected parts being windowed out with a Hanning window and copied into suitably selected locations in the synthetic waveform. The method is adapted to synthesize unvoiced consonants and includes the steps of palindromically copying suitably selected parts of the recorded human speech to form a synthesized waveform for the unvoiced consonant using concatenation. The method may be used for diphone, or polyphone, synthesis. The advantage of this palindromic synthesis method is that when the copying process has been reversed the second time there is either no repetition of identical blocks, or else the time difference between repetitions is markedly larger in comparison with known methods, thus minimizing unwanted periodic artifacts in the synthesized speech.

  • Patent number: 6055303
Abstract: A system and method of providing CCBS services over GVNS. In a network service with routing code recalculation, a supplementary subscriber service involves an interaction between two subscribers. Knowledge of a subscriber access code, used in a called subscriber local remote exchange, is required in a calling subscriber local exchange. A subscriber access code is generated by modification of a called subscriber routing code, used by the calling subscriber local exchange. The modification occurs in a transit node of the network service. An interworking problem is then overcome by providing a relay CCBS application service element (CCBS-ASE), in a GVNS transit node, and arranging for end-to-end signaling to be replaced by two TC dialogs, one being the calling parties LE and the relay CCBS-ASE and the other between the called parties LE in the relay CCBS-ASE.

  • Patent number: 6047177
Abstract: A method, device and system for radio based short range communication makes possible local network access for capacity-demanding broadband services in a cellular short range system such as DECT. Two separate cellular systems for short range communication are integrated to make a hybrid system, where one of the systems is a DECT system and the other system is a LMDS system. The integration combines DECT and LMDS so that LMDS is used for radio transmission between a DECT-PP and a DECT-RFP via an uplink and a downlink, and for transmission of broadband information in a downlink. The DECT aspect is used for speech, narrow band and medium band data communication, and for transmission of authorization/encryption information so that only authorized subscriber can utilize the information which is transmitted via DECT and LMDS.

  • Patent number: 6047185
Abstract: A method for testing handover in mobile telephone networks. A test mobile passes through relevant traffic routes while transmitting a radio signal and registering its position. Actual base stations synchronously measure the signal strength which is received from the test mobile. The values obtained are compiled with respect to time and respective registered position of the test mobile in a measurement database. Handover can then be tested by varying selected handover parameters during a time-based play back with the aid of the measurement database. The measurement is thus carried out in the uplink which provides a realistic basis for determining a desired handover algorithm. A single measurement process makes it possible to test a large number of algorithms without disturbing the network.
